Majestic Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 Symonds was a match winner but he also had the luxury of playing in a strong team. If he played for a weak team, things could have been different for him. I won't rate him higher than Yuvi. sandeep, Cricspin and Lord 3
nevada Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 Very, very late bloomer who was lucky Australia backed him. Made a big splash initially in '96 with six hitting in County cricket. England wanted to pick him as usual but he opted to play for Australia. Was 28 when he played that match-winning innings against Pak in the 03 WC. It lifted the gloom in the Aussie camp as Warne was thrown out when it was revealed in a drug test that he had taken a diuretic, which can be a masking agent. Steve Waugh had begged for one last chance but he was ignored and Symonds was the All-rounder of choice. Full marks to them and Ponting for backing him as he never looked back after that breakout performance. Suhaan 1
Adamant Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 (edited) Krantikari ballebaz Andrew Symonds.! I remember those days, Symonds was a bully. The aussies bullied our team in odis so badly that I hated this guy. Basically the Yuvraj Singh of Australia. But yes he was technically more sound than our Yuvi and that's why had a better test career. Edited September 20, 2021 by Adamant

kohli Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 Symonds was match winner.better than hussey & martyn in odi.always perform when Aussie need him. Can bowl spin & medium also. Gun filder.
CSK Fan Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 An important corollary to this is that sometimes you need to ignore the good numbers of match losers too. Eg Manish Pandey's 50s in t20

Nikola Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 (edited) Averaged 100+ in 2 worldcups he played. If he would have kept himself out of controversy he would have made Australia's squad in 2011 worldcup much stronger. Edited September 20, 2021 by Nikola
