coffee_rules Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 Since the advent of EPL (in the 1990s) , England has never won the European Championship (UEFA) let alone the WC since 1966. IPL is as thriving as EPL, but India might never win T20 WC since the start of IPL. Who cares for T20 WC? Meh
SK_IH Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 India can win, it's not a bad team. Need more clarity of thought, good leadership & less anchors, India will be contenders. Adi_91 and sensible-indian 2
QuarantineTormentino Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 England National football team gives wayy more opportunities to a lot of youngsters lmao. There’s no senior culture in there
sensible-indian Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 (edited) Atleast EPL is prestigious. IPL has no prestige cos T20s is a rotten format. No one remembers any performance in IPL (or even T20Is) after a few days. This is where the problem lies for cricket. Edited November 9, 2021 by sensible-indian

T20 is a format that is probably more popular among the small population that doesn't follow cricket in general. So this is slightly off this hypothesis. IPL is not the evil for Ind's trophy drought. In fact, if anything, we were not winning much before IPL either. kirkutfan, coffee_rules and Sgattick10 3

Some of them here and even Kapil Dev say, IPL is the reason for India not winning T20 WC, club or city sports can’t or need not ensure national success like EPL does to England. Having said that, I certainly mock fans as they have maximum representation this year in the national team and we are facking out after first round. Show them their aukat. Nothing against IPL. It is fine and entertainment like Bollywood movies Adi_91 1

I am unfortunately proven right. coffee_rules 1

Just saying its not prestigious. Cricket is a game of mini engrossing battles which t20 greatly dilutes
sage Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 at least England got to semis and final in the last two tournaments. used to find english football similarity with india but this time we didn't even leave knockouts.

goose Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 The EPL would never finish 1-2 weeks before the start of the Euros that's for sure. Norman 1
Norman Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 There's no comparison. The level of competition is exponentially more in football compared to cricket. There are at least 15 teams in Europe alone, who are extremely competitive and can beat any team on their day. In addition, the revenue gap between the English FA and the likes of Spanish, French, German FAs isn't anywhere as big that between the BCCI and other boards. If cricket had a footbal level of following and competition, I'm sure the Indian team would not even make the KOs most of the time as (apart from a select few) , Indian cricket history is filled with serial bottlers and mental midgets. rollingstoned 1
coffee_rules Posted November 9, 2021 Author Posted November 9, 2021 Again, not saying EPL=IPL England not winning Euro/WC even with EPL = India not winning T20 WC even with IPL

EPL is competing with Laliga, Bundesliga along with the French league which is very competitive. IPL has no competition. Issue is Shastri/zKohli etc. with poor analytical abilities and no forward thinking. Need to get some baseball experts to introduce them to modern Analytics and get them out of stone age
sage Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 The point of comparison that is true is that England despite being the richest footballing nation with biggest media hype and celeb culture in football has underachieved and so has India in cricket. coffee_rules 1

Aha, famous adage, I am not saying EPL=IPL is the cause of India;s failure to use that adage. Expecting India to win just because of thriving IPL is not on. India needs to address the inherent drawbacks - have roles and different players for different formats.

Because they are competing with everyone using the same tactics. Then it comes down to athletes and England just does not have what Germany or France or Italy and Spain does.Football will expose every fault line you have.
