Axar Patel vs Kyle Jamieson

Both have started thei test careers with a bang. 

 

Axar Patel

5 Matches - 36 wickets 

Average - 11.86

 

Jamieson 

10 matches - 52 Wickets 

Average - 16.04

 

Which of these guys may end up with a <20 average player? 

 

I totally want Axar to have a meme career & he mostly plays at home & ends as a 17-18 average bowler.

Axar Patel has more upside, he's also younger IIRC? The numbers will get eventually worse for both, Kyle can get closer to 30 bowl avg if he plays more in Asia & Oz. Patel will probably be closer to 25 if he plays lots of tests in Asia like Ashwin or Jadeja.

Also stupid of Kohli to keep bowling Jayant at the end...  Bapu would have got a few more here.

Jamieson is 26 & Axar is 27.   Axar can get a totally unbelievable career if he plays only at home for next 3-4 years.  First target should be fastest to 100 wickets.

Kyle Jamieson is too good to average 30.

He will definitely end with a career avg less than 25.

Bcoz of his height he does not give much runs even when he isn't getting wickets, so that average won't be spoiled.

The test for Axar will be overseas but for that he will have to become a better batsman.

Jamieson as of now for the simple reason he picked wickets in England and bowled brilliantly at Kanpur.

 

Axar is yet to play outside India

Jamieson is better. Axar better in Asia. 

Jammu in most places barring Australia and s.africa. I feel his pace won't be effective there but you never know. Mcgrath used to bowl 135-140 not 130-136 like jammu. If he up's the pace then yes.

The good thing about Axar is that he is exposing other spinners' records in India ... Difficult to take a spinner's record at face value in India

For more than half of his career Mcgrath bowled at 130-137, not much difference in their pace.

Let's wait and see. I am just not confident with kiwi players in Australia and s africa hey. New zeland pitches are different to those 2. Lesser bounce and far more swing on offer.

Jamieson will be lethal in South Africa.  Nightmarish bowler to face on a Joburg track with plenty of bounce & in Durban.  He is modern day Ambrose. 

Kiwis don't tour SA much Though.

Wouldn't the bounce be true there though?  Would be easier to duck especially when you consider the height he bowls from. 

I rate him as the 3rd best bowler in the world at the moment after booms and Cummins. 

Siraj is hot on his heels though. Will out siraj number 4 and then shaheen.

Don't think so. But should be another sub 25 spinner for us like Ash and Jadeja. Should easily get to 200-250 test wickets and start to push Jadeja for a spot in our playing 11 in SENA in the next cycle.

Nah tall bowlers are a different proposition in South Africa.  Morkel & even Olivier extract the bounce the way Jamieson does.  He will out bowl every bowler in the world in those conditions.  

There is no one like Cummins in world cricket.  He is a complete fast bowler imo. 

Bumrah is great in his own way but he rarely does run through a side.  He sure is a wicket taker though.

Imo bumrah is better than Cummins. Only issue with bumrah is he doesn't take many wickets with the new ball. He is such a class player. He seems way better than any other bowler with the old ball strangely. The bumrah I saw vs England last time, now that is the best bowler in the world. I would put them on par. Cummins has a lot to prove in India. He did do well in England last time. India and Asia will be bis true test. 

 

Jammu is a beast but clearly he is more suited for swing friendly conditions. I am looking forward to seeing him bowl in s Africa. Olivier is scary in s Africa right now. Rabada has sort of declined. Imo rabada is a complete bowler but he has regressed a bit. 

 

Also let's not forget siraj shall we. He is up there with the best. Not much to choose from between siraj and jammu as an all conditions bowler. Siraj is already ahead of rabada now. He can lead a side alone.

Siraj will probably never touch the highs Rabada did as a 21-22 year old.  He was most insane fast bowling young talent of our generation & was picking wickets left right n center.  Owning Peak Smith in Australia as a youngster bowling fiery spells then storming to 200 Test wickets at a young age ... only age Fudging  ball tamperer  Waqar was other in the list.

Peak Rabada beats every top bowler in current era.  That guy was insane.

you think peak rabada prior to injury was better than bumrha 2018? i dont think so. Sure you could say smith dint play in that 2018 series but the way he bowled with that nagging length, pace, bounce, variation was exemplary. I do agree rabada is a once a generation level talent. So is booms. Cummins too. 

What i saw of bumrah that year was better than rabada's peak between 2014-2016. Each to their own though. 

Rabada peaked too early. Now post injury, its going to be hard for him to get that level however he will still be a top bowler for obvious reasons. He is a quality bowler. infact he is an ATG. He averaged 50 in india before but after the recent series in 2019 vs india away he has managed to reduce his average to 40. So clearly he has gotten better in asia too.
