The situation may look dire in 2021, due to very little domestic cricket in the last 20 months.

But things were looking up in the 2016 to 2019 period.

If we consider Fast bowlers or hit-the-deck Fast-medium bowlers available in the various zones now.

North Zone

Umran

Saini

Ishant ... used to be

Sangwan

Mayank Yadav

Simarjeet

Nikhil Kohli

Central Zone

Umesh

Kartik Tyagi

Avesh

Nagarkoti

Mavi

Khaleel

Kuldeep Sen

Vasu Vats

East Zone

Shami

Sushant Mishra

Aaron ... old

Akashdeep

West Zone

Bumrah

Deshpande

Mukesh Choudhary

South Zone

Siraj

Prasidh

Yarra

Thampi

South Zone, East Zone and West Zone need to pull up their socks.

if we remove intl players, South and west zone look even more poor. trundler kingdoms.

Probably it has something to do with the pitches. Hyderbad/ Bangalore/ Chepauk all help spinners more.  In every zone we have crap bowlers.

not just pitches, but also the fast bowling culture that matters

Karnataka gave us Srinath/venky prasad.  T.A.sekar , Kumaran, Arun, Balaji are the ones i remember from TN.  Sreesanth obviously was good in patches.   Mumbai is all about batting culture. So any fast bowler coming out of there is a bonus.  In terms of quality i won't say any zone is dominating.  If we divide religion wise, state wise we will get a different number. Entire INdian country's fast bowling culture started growing since the IPL. Remember Kamran Khan. Then that imaginary legend what is his name?  Atul something. We are talking about this Jammu fast bowler purely because of pace , same with Kartik Tyagi, Nagarkoti. Trust me we even hyped Unadkat when he played under-19. He was effortless touching 135 to 140k.

A shame he is not picked for SA test series.  Still can't believe WTF selectors were smoking to pick Jayant:facepalm:

I thought Sundar was injured. Wtf are the selectors smoking? Sundar after his heroics in Australia is a must in the squad for his temperament and decent batting technique. No brainer.

Especially when Jadeja was injured.  What good will Ashwin or Jayant do on a green Wanderers pitch?

Except for Centurion maybe..  None of the other two venues will take turn.   Sundar as a novice picked 5 wickets in Gabba including Smith..  Where even Lyon struggled.  Those fluke wickets of Jayant vs NZ in the end have blinded selectors

Zone quota?has someone already filled the quota from TN?

If yes, this is so sad to see it in this era

No other reason there to ignore Sundar

I will only , Remember the Name

Sundar has had a finger surgery and was out for 5 months. Cannot rush him into test cricket without any FC matches (wasn't fit for SA A tour, missed SMAT trophy at the time as well) just because he has bowled in VH Trophy. Best for him to play a few Ranji matches next month and be ready for the national side afterwards.

After selecting every squad, the selectors should come out with a list of players who are missing out due to injury or post-injury rehabilitation.

This will avoid lots of confusions.

Warrier lost pace in 2020.

This list is for 2021.

Yea we don't know how many will lose pace like him how many will maintain. Shami/Umesh were able to maintain decent pace. Still not really express.  VRV singh, Munaf Patel, Ishant plethora of bowlers lost pace after a while.

Umesh has lost quite a bit of pace. He went from being genuine fast to borderline fast to fast-medium right now. Shami has done better in sustaining his pace, or to put it differently, in ensuring that decline is not so noticeable

Actually, Shami only became fast from 2016 onwards. He wasn't fast before that.

Age has caught up with him,so naturally pace will come down

Same is the case with Ishant,

Ishant lost pace in between of his career from 2009-2014 he picked up pace again from later part of 2014 to probably 2018

He and Umesh were phenomenal in 2017 home series against Australia ,that was the best i saw bowl them at home

Umesh inspite of loosing pace. I never see him trundling at 128-130. Even at lowest he bowl above 134 always in test cricket, that's one thing I like about him. Had he not debut under dhoni him and varoon would have played more regularly and would have formed formidable fast bowling pair. Both had great physique for fast bowling and on their peak they were bowling several ball above 147 in an over.
