Ashwin looks fit and sharp to since his limited overs comeback. Are you saying this is because of Kohli? I mean in 2021 which athlete doesn’t focus on fitness? Sure in cricket skill can make up for fitness to some extent but I am not sure how the guys you mentioned have anything to do with Kohli’s fitness culture. Shankar has always been injured too. Sundar I will give you that one because he played under Kohli for most of his formative years in big leagues.
Jay Posted December 15, 2021 Posted December 15, 2021 Pandya cant bowl. Can't bat. Lacks power hitting off late. What the hell can he do?

However I don’t see this culture he brought people keep talking about. Look at the youngsters coming through Shaw,Gill etc they look very soft physically. Lot of other promising players look malnourished too. The ones with tatoos and 6 packs like Rahul and Pandya are the most injury prone. Kohli’s peers like Ashwin and Rohit are not exactly known for their fitness. Jadeja was always super athletic. The only guy who raised his fitness to the next level besides Kohli under Kohli is Md.Shami. That’s one guy you can give credit for Kohli’s fitness culture. Bumrah has had injury issues, Umesh just like Jadeja was always athletic, Bhuvi the less said the better, Ishant too never had problems with injury. That was the least of his problems. Can some one tell me how Virat changed the so called fitness culture. You still have to have match fitness which is different from raw physical fitness. If the only focus is on maintaining six pack then that is bad. Maintaining 6 pack requires a lot of sacrifice. Pandya is focusing too much on six pack. rollingstoned 1

What's worse is they actually believe he is actually useful even if he doesn't bowl rofl. Sure he is athletic. It's no use to me or bcci if that athleticism doesn't help you stay injury free or inhibits you from displaying the one useful quality he supposedly had, which is power hitting. You need strength and conditioning too which he clearly lacks. He relies on timing to connect his shots. Needs to fill out more to generate power without compromising his speed and reflexes.

Lone Wolf Posted December 15, 2021 Posted December 15, 2021 Back injury is just terrible for a pacer it's basically very very rare that a bowler returns bowling full steam after that. Pollock suffered that & he was never same.. Lost a lot of pace & end was nigh eventually. There's a reason Pandu rarely bowls these days & when he does he doesn't steams in like he used to. Doesn't puts a lot of effort into his back. He has seen writing on the wall.

Not just from a cricket perspective I don’t get the point of building a 6 pack. Obviously easy for me to say sitting on my couch . Anyway I thought having a 6 pack was usually a indicator of having a strong core but you look at some of the power lifters, wrestlers (not the entertainment one) , Defensive line men etc they have very strong core too and so do yoga gurus but none of them have 6 packs. This 6 pack thing is just a dumb fad. I go to my village most farmers, laborers have 6 packs and the ones who retrieve kallu (palm tree wine) , honey etc have 8-16 packs but don’t think they built that consciously in a gym.

Kohli has had a huge influence in the overall fitness culture of the team, he lead from the front not just thru speech but in performance, he was the first one with the trainer basu to churn out a fitness plan and a diet which would enable him to play maximum games and enough fuel through recovery, it all changed from 2014 onwards, the rest followed suit and spent a lot of time in the gym, diets had changed drastically and the team become very professional in terms of fitness, by 2015 world cup India had the best fielding team in the world, running between the wickets improved big time, slip and close in fielders became gun level, compare that to pre 2014 levels ishant, Zak, sreesanth, Varun aaron would all break down after a series.

It's all about body fat percentage, You can have abs but they will not show if your body fat is over 20%, the only reason why pandya could bowl 140kph clicks eventhough he only started bowling after he turned 21 was due to his supreme fitness, agility, athletic body, he has speed and stamina, he will come back with a bang soon.

Indian fielding has been terrible in recent times. May be ground fielding has improved but catching has gone down under Virat. Even ground fielding I am going with an assumption, I haven’t seen anything that makes me say wow Indian fielding is amazing. Also don’t you think it’s ironic that Indian team has most fitness issues on one side because I don’t remember the last time a fully fit and firing Indian team performed or lasted a tournament. WC 2019- so many injuries, chops and changes same thing in WT20 Aus, Eng tour again multiple people dropping like flies. Can you give me a tangible proof that Indian fitness has improved under Kohli? Don’t show me pics of biceps and 6 packs, you can achieve that with $5 a month gym membership. rollingstoned 1

From 2016-2020 India was the best fielding team in the world, Indian players barely ever rest and play all throughout the year hence injuries are bound to happen, people like you who after a night out drinking a couple of shots of whisky ain't sober for two days continuous are now gonna question cricketers who are away playing cricket for over 250 days in the year with barely any rest in between including travel, training, gym etc. A couple of nights of not so great sleep would get people like you at the doctors clinic.

NameGoesHere Posted December 15, 2021 Posted December 15, 2021 Yeah heavy creepiness factor touching his back etc. Next headline from Shoaib. “I next touched his back(side). Muscles were there but weak. I confirmed and reconfirmed while he asked “Shoaib bhai what are you doing????” I told him that he needs fast twitch buttock muscles (hence the popular phrase “work your ar$e off!”) raki05 1

You have no idea some of my feats of endurance when it comes to partying continuously in my prime but anyway that’s besides the point. I don’t really see the fitness culture. If Morgan had said that I would believe him or even the Aussie team. Don’t want the genetic debate because WI team looks a pale shadow too even though some of those guys are naturally built like beasts. I really don’t see a fitness culture. In fact the early- mid 2000’s had better athletes: Yuvraj,Kaif, Rohit Sharma (when he started), Raina (when he started), Dhoni, DK. These guys played around the seniors so we didn’t exactly look like a fit team but I can bet guys like Sehwag, VVS, Ganguly have more endurance and fitness levels than the Shaw and Gills of the world. raki05 and rollingstoned 1 1
