Pandya still has a long career ahead of him.

That is not the cause of his back issues. But because of his back issues he cannot sustain the action. Real source of his back is not that. It is his batting style. He relies on bat speed to hit big sixes. Since he stays deep in the crease he has to generate momentum in a standing position. He arches so far back and tries to get elevation. There is no forward momentum like Kohli or other players have. That is a lot of stress on the back for a fragile like him. I suffered the same injury when i played. Every time i lofted i felt the pinch. It got worse and worse. He already had a surgery. He continues standing so far back and trying to smash. He probably can get used to it. But if he picks up another back injury his career will be summarily over. Balaji's career was over after one stress fracture in back. Chakdephatte, raki05, ravishingravi and 1 other 4

Keep in mind Pandya is not a guy who grew up bowling pace from a young age - IIRC he 'tried' bowling pace when he was already 20 or so, and he got some wickets and kept going. Time will tell if he's able to bounce back from his injury or not. Let's see. I had high hopes for him to become a 5 year contributor in white ball cricket, and an outside chance to be a missing piece of the puzzle for away tours. It is what it is. Good quality batsmen who can bowl 140 are unicorns - few and far between. If you think about it, the list post-2000 is what - Kallis, Flintoff, Razzaq, Mitch Marsh, Pandya? Did Shane Watson crank it up that high? New guy 1

He has a mixed Action and a soft landing, unable to rotate the back foot effectively which leads to left lateral flexion resulting in stress fracture of the back. Regarding his back foot bend, it's not a collapse. All knee dominant bowlers will have the bend, some more some less. Here is Lockie Ferguson, look at the bend. He is knee dominant as well. Umesh Yadav, another knee dominant athlete. Edited December 15, 2021 by rkt.india rollingstoned 1
Lone Wolf Posted December 15, 2021 Posted December 15, 2021 Pandya doesn't has the physique of a fast bowler... Sure he could have had a decent career if he was a Bhuvi level trundler. Fast bowling A/R are far more injury prone than anyone else in the game. The back injury he suffered in Asia Cup 2018 sealed his fate sadly. He used to bowl in high 130's & 140k+ as well.

Mesky99 Posted December 15, 2021 Posted December 15, 2021 Hmm pandya and weak? He is ripped and has lean muscle mass, not weak at all, he was never a bowler until his first list a match, started bowling Seam up and in no time bowled decent speeds and looked like a proper bowler, his back injuries have nothing to do with his bowling but his batting, power hitting requires a lot of lower body strength and pandya activates his whole lower body strength while looking to hit out, akthar was a druggie and for most part overweight, he played 9-12 games max in a year including tests compared to pandya who plays over 30 including domestic cricket and is a proper athlete who does not hide in the field. Imagine fat akthar lecturing someone with a physique like this Chakdephatte and sandeep 2
Sandeep99 Posted December 15, 2021 Posted December 15, 2021 This guy is history. Unless he develops some brain becomes mature - which I do not see happening - he's going to remain an IPL star. Starting with Shardul and V Iyer I feel we're going to see a plethora of medium pace bowling allrounders and it will be difficult for Hardik to sustain in Indian team with his performances. raki05 1

I seen it over and over slim express bowlers getting back injuries. Guys like Shoaib and Lee had powerful lower bodies to develop pace, skinnier guys have a more whippy action that puts strain on the back. The case of Mohammad Zahid who was super quick but got back injuries due to his action -
