Why is umran malik not with the Indian team in Africa even as a net bowler?

After seeing him in IPL, i could easily make out that this guy should be expedited into indian 15 and then once he is ready he should get into the 11.

if not into 15, at least he should be in spare bowlers list kept to bowl so that Indian batsman can get genuine fast bowling practice and he can be monitored as well.

where is umran?

Umran Malik played just 1 Unofficial Test for India A, despite bowling well in that match. Disappointing !!

Should get as many chances as possible and fast tracked into Team India.

Anyone with potential ability to bowl around 150k should be immediately taken under BCCI wings. Thats what i will say general rule should be.

May be trying to be fair to other prospects, don't agree with that strategy.

We are reducing the qualification to a very simple metric while ignoring a whole range of other things to be a successful bowler. Encourage him. But don't make the route easier for him than others. Umran has played one list A where he went for 98 runs in 10 overs.   Went for 90 in 21 overs in the first class game.  So if he gets picked ahead of someone else it will be harmful for him and also the players who were left out. That is what IPL for. That is where we can experiment all we want. Management has the leverage to unearth stars. He needs to have a good season like Saini had in one of the season to be included in the Indian squad.

Nagwaswalla mysteriously continues his run as net bowler for Indian team overseas..  Despite being a useless trundler in India A only reason is either Parsi lobbying or minority quota.  Likes of Porel also bowled better than him.  Umran was generating pace on a lifeless track in at first A game & was missed dearly in 2nd game where Saini bowled well & Arzan was trundling.

Chetan Sharma- The Cuurent Selector-  was king of Trundlers in his time so he has no idea how valuable 150k pace is!

Umran Malik under Kohli will be Gold going by Kohli love for raw pace and aggression!!

The Selectors should be fair ONLY to Team India ... that is develop only those players who have a chance of succeeding at international level.

Finally a common sense post.

Yes Team India is the first priority, everything and everyone else a distant second.

Relatives tell me he was no trundler, he could bowl fast.

Judging by the video I would say easily hitting 140kmhr.

Because his development would be better served playing Ranji than as a net bowler. The more I read this forum the wore respect I have for selectors and others in BCCI - and they aren't the brightest of bulbs around.

Rubbish.

With the state of cricket at the moment in the pandemic, every opportunity to train and practice with the national team is worth its weight in gold.

This is also a short tour less than 3 weeks.

He will gain much more in those 3 weeks than he would in 3 months with a Ranji team.

Chetan was definitely sharp and he bowled with a whippy action.

His problem was that, because he was extremely short, he lacked any kind of natural bounce and the ball always found the sweet spot of the bat when no movement was on offer.

I don't think Umran is tall either right? He is probably slightly above Nagarkoti. But reminds me of that Pakistan bowler Naseem Shah.

Umran is 5'9" or 5'10" and express pace.

Chetan is 5'6" or 5'7" and was Fast-medium.

Of course he is quicker. Almost all bowlers of current gen are going to be quicker than players from the yester year.  Compared to current gen fast bowler he is a bit shorter.  His action is eerily similar to Waqar. Especially the leap he takes at release point.

Let him play some Ranji trophy. Guy has been a tennis ball bowler. It will take him some time before he learns to bowl with a cricket ball. Just hurling the ball isn't bowling.
