Yes studies of how 1/3 of ones own country can be taken away by a neighbour giving a birth to another nation and how that new nation has a better GDP than their own country within 40 years. These actually are very real socio economic topics to be studied.

But why is this news ? I remember during the Iraq war an Iraqi general would keep talking about how they are winning and would show pictures of normal life in Baghdad. This felt like that.
