rollingstoned Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 They've got to find a way to continue to play the games even in such situations. Another year of no Ranji is a big loss and a setback for many players. express bowling 1

Indian cricket is stuffed if this happens. 25 minutes ago, Lord said: IPL will take place though.Sums up the priorities 22 minutes ago, sarchasm said: If the players are jabbed, and the new variant is seemingly mild based on evidence from UK and South Africa, then why be over cautious? Even the few players under 18 could get vaxxed and play relatively safely. So many cricketers are going to have their careers destroyed. This and the shut down of schools are simply unconscionable decisions and the country will pay for years and years. States are shutting down imposing weekend curfews. Delhi has already announced it, other states will follow suit. we could even see stricter lockdowns if the numbers continue to double every second day Plus holding a tournament in a strict bio bubble with 36 teams (1200-1300 players support staff, officials, broadcast crew eyc) is a logistical nightmare. If the wave subsides in 6-8 weeks, we should still have the time for a short duleep trophy style tournament with say 6 teams

ShoonyaSifar Posted January 4, 2022 Author Posted January 4, 2022 Just now, Lord said: cancel the IPL and hold Ranji in its place (shortened version if required) Can't play Ranji trophy from mid-April and May in hot summer. And no cancelling IPL doesn't help. The entire financial model of BCCI will collapse without the 3000 cr it earns from IPL
Vijy Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 this is going to spell the end of youngsters learning FC batting and playing over long periods. Although I understand why BCCI did it, other domestic FC tourneys have been taking place. This continued lack of FC is guaranteed to cost us in the long run Sgattick10, Mosher, express bowling and 1 other 4

Vijy Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 While IPL may provide the riches, it's the Ranji trophy which prepares cricketers for the rigors of 5-day cricket. by eliminating it yr after yr, BCCI is sending a clear message about where its priorities lie. they should have found a way to play it elsewhere, move the timing around last yr, even play it in a diff location, etc. there are options when one is as rich as they are, but they don't seem to be interested in holding it Lord and rollingstoned 1 1
express bowling Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 I am really worried about our next in line fast bowlers. This is one area which has resulted in us winning one test series after another. I was hoping that Prasidh, Umran and Tyagi will develop as FC bowlers this season. Vijy and Sgattick10 2
kepler37b Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 A bit of digression ... I am growing tired of this Covid. How Long? So many variants coming out, vaccines are ineffective and post covid complications are poorly studied. All in all a big fat victory for the virus. rkt.india and Sgattick10 1 1
Vijy Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 23 minutes ago, sarchasm said: If BCCI doesn't prioritize IPL, it means they don't prioritize Indian cricket at all. Postponing Ranji is a terrible decision but some of you need to come out of the binary thinking of this vs that. Think about what it means when you guys parrot words like ''BCCI only cares for money''. Is there someone profiting personally from the IPL riches? A vast majority of that money is funneled to fund infra, operational expenses and pay a decent salary. playing IPL will do almost nothing for preparing young players for test cricket. if one only cares about T20, they can prioritize IPL for all I care. I never said that they had to cancel IPL to play ranjis or vice-versa. if you stop one of these two formats, then it's a big issue. Likes of SMT, VHT, etc. could be abandoned instead. What we have gotten so far is BCCI cancelling Ranji year after year. If Covid persists for another 4-5 yrs, does this mean there should be no Ranjis till then? BCCI's classic short-term thinking is showing. yes, it won't affect immediate future of test team, but long-term future will be impacted to some (probably large) degree express bowling and rollingstoned 1 1
