"Lord" has 'x factor'.  He's a 'fighter'.  All bowlers get spanked, on his day thakur will "win games".  

 

In a meaningless ODI series and game, if the next game doesn't see 2 changes in the pace bowling, I will know that KL Rahul's 'captaincy' is just as gutless as his mental strength.

He's a great spare tire - hard worker with a lower ceiling on his ability - not unlike his height.  He's a situational selection, not a regular XI player.  Can't expect much from him.  

 

Its not that big a deal that he played this meaningless match - it will say a lot about the captain and coach what they do for the next one, given Bhuvi and Thakur's sub-optimal performances.  

 

I am also not sure why they benched Surya tbh - I love Venky Iyer and am happy to see him debut, but benching SKY?  Not so sure about that.  Not that big a deal, but lets see.

Shardul is playing because, with Jadeja and Axar injured, there is no one else who can bat at 7 and bowl near full quota.

 

What KL should have done is ... given Venkatesh a few overs and bowled Shardul for 6 or 7 overs.  Poor captaincy !

Yes but in typical BCCI strategy I can imagine them selecting him for all LOIs and consequently bowling him into the ground until he becomes the next Praveen Kumar

Lordy's bowling is suitable for tests, not LOIs. his batting is also hit-or-miss, and should be ideally utilized higher up or not at all.

I think he is a perfect batsman to have at no 7 in ODIs. Suits the role very well. Treat him as 5th bowler and a Irfan Pathan level batsman. This means that it is not necessary to give him 10 full overs.
