What I want and what I will get, are unfortunately two different things.

Here is my XI

Hitman

KL

Mayank

Gill

Iyer

Pant

Jaddu

Axar

Ash

Bumrah

Siraj

6 batsmen all capable of scoring a match winning innings.

Mayank will be great for Number 3 in India and he will get runs too and keep scoreboard ticking

Gill and Iyer similarly here are good batsmen. The combination of Mayank, Gill and Iyer far far superior to Pujara, Kohli and Rahane, the difference is going to be 100+ extra runs easily.

Jaddu, Ash and Axar are quality batsmen in Indian conditions to at least provide support to the batsmen and also score crucial runs.

Bowling - Bumrah, Siraj, new ball bowlers. Our spinners in Ash, Jaddu and Axar will be potent and be far too strong for SL.

Here is the XI I think the BCCI/TM will go for

Hitman

KL

Pujara

Kohli

Iyer

Pant

Jaddu

Axar

Ash

Bumrah

Siraj

I think Rahane is finished. The latest noise about him not getting enough credit for Australia's series win may end his career given Kohli's ego too.

TM views Pujara as the Wall 2.0 and Dravid loves that.

Kohli is captain so unfortunately he plays.

The rest of the players pick themselves.

H Vihari

R Pant

Jadeja is still injured, they might play 6 + Keeper.

They will probably rest Shami and Bumrah.

Rest of squad:

Prasidh

S Thakur

D Chahar

KS Bharat

M Agarwal

Its too light on bowling plus Kohli wants always 5 bowlers.

I think Siraj and Prasidh would be good new ball options.  I dont want Thakur or Chahar in the team, as we need quality bowlers to open the innings, mind you if its flat slow low turners, then you definitely take one of them if not both. It means the team bats to 11 and thats a weapon in itself.

In India, Ashwin and Axar are almost as good as batsmen.

As OP wrote, what one wants and what selectors/TM will give us are two diff things. What I want for SL test series:

1. Shaw/Gill (rotate)

2. Mayank

3. KL

4. Hitman --> an unorthodox choice given Hitman's success as opener, but No. 4 is often best batter in side, which Hitman is in Indian conditions

5. Gill/Iyer (rotate)

6. Pant (wk)

7. Sundar/Jaddu (rotate)

8. Axar

9. Ashwin

10. Siraj/Shami (rotate)

11. Prasidh/Umesh (rotate)

FFS How the hell can Gill get injured?

Seriously what kind of training and fitness programs go in India, where players are in semi permanent state of injury.

Its embarrassing.

Are Indians genetically inferior physically speaking?

Im comfortable with your squad and placings of most.

Im not against protecting Hitman, gives he is arguably our best test player.

Gill is made of glass.  Fitness level of Indian players is well known.

Its just so sad and frustrating.

By the way I refuse to believe that this cannot be fixed.

I think there is something terrible wrong with the way players prepare for games, both before, during and after. Something is wrong.

You cant be consistently breaking down. Its unbelievable the injuries that Indian players get.

The most frustrating aspect is that Kohli, Pujara, Rahane and Dhawan literally never get injured. I mean it took a worldwide pandemic to knock out Dhawan lol.

Kolli has his share of injuries...  Pujara has a 60 year old man knees but still never seen him out on fitness grounds..  India cricket is cursed totally..  Same goes for Rahane although he is quite agile.

Dhawan got injured in most important tourney in WC 2019...  He is always fit for bilaterals:phehe:

Pujara may have 60 year old knees, but he rarely if ever misses a test. So there is something that he is doing right to get himself presentable for every test, lets not forget, he bats longer than most Indians in the team.

Rahane I believe just from my personal experience, has got his agility from martial arts. Forget about how good he is or isnt, when you properly learn one form of martial arts, it teaches you discipline in preparation and also gives you great flexibility, especially more so when you learn it from a younger age which he did.

Dhawan didnt get "injured" from his fragile body, he literally broke a bone from a delivery. Cricket injuries like that is understandably and unavoidable.

Because those old phuckers don't work as hard and put themselves in difficult situations lol. They ask bowlers to go easy on them in training. Kohli refused to face bouncers from tyagi etc.

Rahane only plays chahar lmao In training.

Our young boys go hard in training. They get hit by vicious bouncers quite frequently by our potent pace attack. When you increase intensity you are bound to get hurt until your body gets used to it.

But yes ridiculous amount of injuries. I blame lack of first class practice due to covid. We were doing well before 2020.
