That was not the reason. He believed his bowlers could go back to back innings and bowl India out. Waugh has admitted this a number of times in interviews.

It will be an interesting day of cricket for sure as many results are possible.  A freak run out, a spectacular catch, a stupid shot, an outstanding spell, or a great counter attacking innings can produce a result.  My guess is Pakistan will be conservative for 2 sessions. Then will have a dash at it if enough wickets are in the tank.  Australia will probably be aggressive at the start. Then will have an in out field.

This Shafique guy is impressive, managed to face 300+ Against Cummins, Lyon and Starc albeit being dropped once. This is just his 4th test and he’s only 22
