11 and Squad for T20I home series vs SA

Recommended Posts

With reports that "seniors" will be rested, what would your team be?

I was thinking- based on IPL form...

Abhishek Sharma

Ruturaj Gaekwad

Shreyas Iyer (c)

Hardik Pandya

Surya Kumar Yadav (if fit)

Washington Sundar

Dinesh Kartik

Harshal Patel

T Natarajan

Umran Malik

Yuz Chahal

Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, Avesh Khan, Axar Patel

Tripathi should be considered too

Unfortunate miss outs- Gaikwad, Bishnoi, Arshdeep

No point wasting time on these players- Iyer, Rana, Tripathi, Hooda (all have issues against pace n bounce, although hooda has improved but still i have no faith in him)

i also have issues with kishen we dont have many quality options left

  • also need lefties in squad since only pant remains and all our right handers apart from SKY has problems with leg spin which makes lefties role more important
  • What might help him in Aus is those are true bounce wkts which he enjoys
  • Remaining many have pace bounce issues

as far as jaddu goes, never ever liked him in t20s but he ll go we like it or not

It’s very important that Abhishek Sharma be given a go and tested, because if it comes off he can help the team balance by a LOT. An Explosive Top order bat who can give 1-2 overs of left arm spin will be a huge asset in the big Australian grounds. Just look at how Maxwell has done wonders for his National team in terms of providing balance in LOIs

But TM, selectors and fans need to show patience,as he will be inconsistent and matches where he clicks will mostly be won by us

This is punt we must take

If expect consistency in T20 from potential match winners then why do we complain about Dhawan,Iyer etc?

For series against SA (assuming KL, Rohit, Pant, Kohli, Bumrah rested & SKY is injured)

Abhishek/Paddikal (leftie at the top to counter left arm angle of jansen)
Shaw/Ruturaj
Hooda
Hardik (c)
DK
Tewatia
Ashwin
Yuzi
Prasidh
Umran
Arshdeep

5 proper bowlers...
Prasidh brings bounce, Umran brings pace, Arshdeep brings left arm angle + death over bowling, Ashwin and Yuzi are doing well in their respective arts.
Ashwin as a bat is doing well, can be relied upon at no 7. DK & Tewatia has been the match winners who can take care at no 5 & 6.
