What's your take on Shikhar Dhawan. Do you back him for World Cup 23. Scored when he played last time. I initially wanted to back him but one of the three has to go. Can't handle that many out of touch players. To me he looks more finished than others even when he scores.

yes 100% 

he plays just one format so will be rusty a lot times . Its been moving a lot here as well. We think someone sitting out will do well but guys like kishen n shaw are dancing monkey again moving ball 

Post 2019 Wc i made a lot of thread about moving on from but all to realize their are even options to replace him in ODI 

Even gaikwad recod against left armer i mentioned in IPL forum- sitting duck 

 

If and IF dhawan is finished we might be in a bit of problem as other options dont look great as of now unless shaw improves a lot or we open with pant

What was the need to rest Loli?   Isn't he already 'resting' during this tour of Eng?

Don't understand the logic behind resting kohli, he has already been resting enough & hasn't spent a long time in the middle & needs the time in the middle to be in any sort of form. This doesn't make sense unless they plan to drop him from the WC.

Which they shouldn't encourage considering his current form, they should tell him he either is available when the selectors need him or he is out of contention for WC squad. 

 

Kohli is is treating the Indian team like his Sasur ka Ghar, coming & going as he pleases while not allowing a settled middle order.

The issue is not with Kohli (or Rohit where applicable) asking for rest but Ind wanting to play him irrespective of his form and the form of other players. 
 

On top of that, Ind tries to play someone who is a mere placeholder esp. overseas (like a S Iyer) to facilitate the comebacks. 
 

Right now, Hooda, a player in form, should be playing as many games as possible, imo  … Kohli should be tried in the series against Aus, the last series before the WC, for a final check on his form. Pitches would be more or less flat at home too. If he performs, …  … There is Asia Cup before that series but pitches could be tough to bat in SL so may not be the best venue to judge form (and conditions which are going to be different than in Aus)

Agree on playing players in form.

 

But the strategy of picking and choosing series to gain form seems dangerous, unless BCCI has a looking glass there is no guarantee that he will have a good run in the Aus series, playing all the t20 games possible  before the WC should have been the strategy.

There are cricket folks like Shastri who advising Kohli “rest” too. Therefore, we cannot say what will work for player. It could be a mental issue or a need to work on a particular aspect of batting. 
 

It can be difficult to rectify if playing cricket constantly. Some time off can allow to you focus 100% on the areas that need improvements. 
 

Aus series is potentially the best to show (not necessarily find) form as it is to be played in Ind and more or less on flat pitches. Though Kohli is expected to be back for the Asia Cup.
