Venkatesh Iyer - Was called up to the National team and have been asked to bat in the middle order which was not his preferred option. Still does a very very good job (33 batting average at a strike rate of 162, 5 wickets in 4 innings bowled). Then suddenly discarded because of just one poor IPL? I mean the selectors didn’t even pick him in the squad for last 2 t20is vs England. Imagine what an asset he can be in the Australia t20Wc. Can easily make the team ahead of Dudeja who is useless in this format. Him and Hardik in the same XI would be a huge boost

Actually his bowling during T20 Warm ups wasn't too bad.  I'll actually take him over Jadeja in  T20 format. 

Jaddu enjoys otherwordly PR though.  Indians compare him with Ben stokes all the time.

Iyer can bat at any position ,is left handed.

As he is medium pacer he can easily compliment our bowling attack of Bumrah, ,Shami ,Bhubaneshwar etc

Wasn't he Pandya's backup? Now that HP has returned, we don't need him to play. I want him for West Indies though.

He was always suppose to loose his place, only idiots entertained that thought of pandya career being over or him being taken his place . But then again ppl wont learn they had same fanatsy with Dube

Now with jaddu and pandya playing their is no space for other all rounder and he has throw his weight as batsman , which he didnt help himself with a poor IPL 

 

We have a huge pool of players and everyone cant be given a fair run , only players with high quality will get longer run and other will always remain on thin ice . Ye concept humesh rahega har country men rahega , saalon se tha saalon se rahega

I dont mind playing both. Honestly lineups with these 50 50 players work in sena.

 

Go with venky iyer, Paal paandi, chahar or thakur at 8, bhuvi wat 9, chukrah 10 and 11 prasidh. 

 

Looks pretty strong to me.

I feel like ARs need to be strong enough in one discipline. Pandu's batting is good enough. not convinced about venky's game for overseas.

All of them were only keeping the seat warm for Pandya. Some of them were not bad but didn't pull up trees to really get ahead of him in the pecking order.

to be fair he did well for india but as i say some talents who have something special like pant, pandya, KL will always be backed extra as compare to guys like venky who dont and these guys will always be on thin ice. They ll have to keep performing till they develop a reputation and that gives them that backing

Kela should be in middle order. He can easily be a beast there.

he is already a beast in middle order in ODI 

In t20 lets see in future, specially if shaw comes good coz shaw is too good a option and he cant bat anywhere else so we ll need to adjust him

Jadeja's batting is a coin flip at best. His bowling is a huge liability.

even if jadeja has to be replaced it ll be with a spin bowling all rounder like sundar, axar or krunal

Rahul in tests also should be middle order everywhere except in England and kiwiland.

Hooda himself was treated like this. Infact some fans dissed him for being in the squad. Now he is everyone's toast. In T20 Venky Iyer is a better bet than Shreyas Iyer given his versatility to bat from 1 to 7 and he is a left hander.

it aint a rule but mostly that how it works , 3 seamer + hardik already is enough seam bowling

In t20 spin is always very handy be it any condition
