He can be a floater. He can open and also play in the middle. Roll his arm over in case if someone pulls up something or having a terrible day.

Has a strike rate of 162 in the limited matches he played. Basically averaging 20(12). excluding not out 33(20) including not out every innings. Pandya has more like a stabilizer these days.

There is no place for him as opener in Indian team today.

this will pretty much be the squad

  • Hooda vs Iyer vs Backup all rounder - Iyer failure hasnt helped his case despite so much backing
  • Kuldeep vs Ash vs Bishnoi- This will mostly be gut call from captain n Rohit loves both Ash n Kuldeep
  • Deepak chahar vs Fitness (if not fit then many have a chance)

These are the remaining battles , these last spots go till last minute unless someone has done well for quite a period .

I dont see Siraj making it since they havent backed him in t20 at all

.

Axar might also make it as backup AR

Because he hasnt been given chances since HP's return. Can bat both in top or middle plus left hander.

The series should make few things pretty obvious.

Openers(3) - Rohit, Rahul, Kishan

Middle order(5) - Kohli, SKY, Pant, D Hooda, Pandya( Pant has to fit in MO now)

Lower middle order(2)- Jadeja, DK

Spinner(2) - Yuzi, Kuldeep

Fast bowlers(5) - Bumrah, Bhuvi, Harshal, Arshdeep, Deepak Chahar

That's 17 and add 1 more for reserves ( Bishnoi). Not really keen on picking Umran or Avesh for the 18 man squad.

@Lord, can't you see Kohli here? Kaise padhta hai re tu? :phehe:

For opener spot, he will have to do more to get chances.

What more? His SR is great in games he played. Left hander and offers bowling which we need more than extra keeper.

Could have been selected for Zim atleast

Who bats at #3 would depend on how the rest of the 11 looks … For me, playing someone like Hooda, if he can bowl, allows the team to play a better batsman to handle pressure at #7.

Also I am not looking for the #3 to anchor but to play an impactful knock or get out to get someone else like a SKY in early!

Only reason Hooda can play when he bowls 2 or 3 overs. He and Pandya can 5th bowling so that you play 4 proper bowlers. Even with batting he cannot bat down the order. So his usefulness is limited when he doesn't do both.

Question is not about who is better.  Question is who is worse between these 2. Obvious answer is S Iyer.

Neither of them are good. Shreyas Iyer is probably bad for T20. He is still cut above Hooda in other formats. Hooda's utility hinges on his ability to bowl a few overs here and there. Honestly Venky Iyer would have been a much better choice than these 2.
