SandeepMotta Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 Watching the Asia Cup their is a strong sense of Deja Vu and feels like we are back to the 90s. Pakistan again pace like fire, SriLanka punching above their weight and India back to trundlers and Indian coaches talking about line and length and how pace doesn't matter and we will continue to lose unless we get change the selection committee whi us full of trubdlers from the 90s or the coaching setup(again the bowling coach is a trundler from the 90s). Norman Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 They may be a mediocre Test and decent at best odi side but Pakistan knows how to play T20 cricket. And most importantly , they know how to approach a bowling innings of a T20 game. India, with all the IPL jamlebaazi still hasn't figured out how to approach T20 bowling. raki05 and Vijy 2

Its the sudden live for trundlers which is a worrying factor and it will cost us test matches too if this continues. express bowling and raki05 2
Number Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 (edited) I don't buy the narrative that we were absolutely crap in 90s. Our full strength team was a good match to Pakistan or any other side that time. With Sachin from 1995-2000 we played them 32 teams and won 14 while they won 16. Take into count we played some of the worst fixers like Azhar, Ajay and Mongia. The gap between us and them wasn't very big in ODIs. Frustrated Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 In the 90s, we hardly had any bowler who could bowl at 140+. Now we hv plenty. Idiotic Selectors went with a trundler attack in this Asia cup probably becz they thought that express pace is not needed in UAE. Bumrah Injury did not help either. We had Siraj as back up who looked in good rythm in Zim and was bowling at 140+ consistently. But they went with Aweful Khan. LOL raki05 and mani sha 1 1

They want to validate their incompetence as a virtue and want to bring back the trundler culture. Dravid the good boy the soft boy is a perfect folly. f them both and bring back a fast bowling backing culture for wins overseas. regressive express bowling, Vijy and raki05 3
Vilander Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 And please don’t bring in Pakistan here, they played the team out against them. If India held on to crucial catches things could have been different. but the key lesson is to block an all trundler attack, it never works. raki05 1
Vilander Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 Bumrah Siraj and a couple of speed merchants are a must, expose the Kashmiri and Moshin , Nagar Mavi Tyagi etc so many to pick from - lol it’s criminal to not try them quickly. raki05 and mani sha 2

We need pace lovers atleast one of them in the selection panel, all of them by default are dibbly dobbly trundlers And a bowling coach like Steyn,Tait express bowling, Vilander, raki05 and 2 others 5

Vijy Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 Just now, Suhaan said: You missed Sakaria I missed quite a few. we have an overabundance of trundlers. perhaps play an all-kumar attack vs the one I mentioned: boobi, praveen, mukesh and ravi (U19 bowler). they can manage an avg speed of 120 with difficulty.

The chase during 1997 Independence Cup (Kanitkar's famous boundry), it was setup by Ganguly and Robin Singh. In the Toronto Cup of 1997 where we beat Pakistan 4-1, Ganguly won 4 consecutive MOM's and single handedly destroyed Pakistan with both bat and ball, all this despite of the fact that our main pacers were Mohanty, Kuruvilla and Harvinder Singh. We again had a little dip during 1999 when Shoaib arrived, as we had never faced such high pace ever, and I guess during that time under Akram's captaincy Pakistan won Asian Test Championship and Asia Cup back to back. In 1999 we didn't have Sachin bfore world cup. Then we lost like 7 ODI matches in row to them.
cricketfan28 Posted September 11, 2022 Posted September 11, 2022 (edited) not sure pak had better openers in 90, don;t think rizwan and babar will make ti to 15 man squad in the 90s. Edited September 11, 2022 by cricketfan28

Only in India will you see people preferring Swords when Assault Rifles are available. Using 125 k pacers, when 145 k pacers are available, won't happen anywhere else in the World.
