sandeep Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 As bad as Kohli's recent inconsistency has been, he's a solid pick for Aus. KL's mental space is going to determine whether he's able to execute anywhere near his potential, and if he manages to do well, India is very likely to go deep in this tournament. Oddly enough, its not pace or bounce that I'm overly worried about as far as India's batting goes. Its spin. All 3 of them - KL, Virat and Rohit are noticeably more vulnerable to getting out, and stuggle to dominate spin early in their innings. Its a major problem for the Indian top order. I'm very frustrated to see run of the mill darters come in and bowl effective T20 overs against the Indian top order. Really makes me think of Veeru and how he used to absolutely demolish spin. vvvslaxman Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 wow this is a serious filtering. How did he manage to do that? In some matches they don't show speed Number 1
zen Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 I know Sir Don tops the list for India but I don't buy such stats as they tell me nothing about the ball apart from its speed range. These stats are primarily designed for basic conversations.

zen Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 There is so much stats pollution on social media where many times it appears as if people merely post to show they have some kind of information and for the masses. For e.g., this stats posted on twitter says "X has Y SR above 140+". It provide marginal insights as the batsman could have mostly played balls around say 141-143 on avg the batsman could have played 100 such balls over 50 innings, which means only 2 balls per innings those two balls could well have been on the pads and so on

All that said, it is my belief that recent form matters the most in T20s. I am unable to go to that link in the OP for some reason, but the 2021-22 stats would mean more to me than dragging 2018 into this discussion. Regardless, these are the guys on the team I support - I fervently hope that the adage "Form in temporary, class is permanent" applies to them and they can carry the team on their experienced shoulders. sandeep 1

TBF Kohli had poor form only in tests over the last few years. In white ball, even though his form fell from his standards, he's still world class in these formats.

In white ball, even though his form fell from his standards, he's still world class in these formats. Problem for Kohli in t20s isn't form - I mean it is to some degree, but the core issue is that he's an anchor type player to begin with, and the game has moved on a lot from 2015 and "good" batting teams don't really have that much utility for anchors in a T20. To his credit, Virat has made visible efforts to embrace the team philosophy of batting more aggressively, even early in his innings, but his game isn't really wired for that, and that has resulted in some ugly looking dismissals and some poor scores. I expect him and the team mgmt both to recognize the 'right' balance of aggression and approach for the WC - markedly different from trying out and practicing different batting tactics in the warm-up games ahead of the tournament. vvvslaxman Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 Aussies being good against raw pace is no surprise. Used to playing on faster pitches all their life.
Chakdephatte Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 Thought Dussen or Markram can be at top. South Africa has quite a few freaks. Want to know their strike rates.
