I will take Gambhir over Sehwag or KL Rahul.

 

Ashwin is a poor selection. Harbhajan or Chahal over Ashwin for me. Rest is fine.

Ashwin - avg 22.98 , eco 6.8

Bhajji - avg 25.32 , eco 6.2

chahal-  avg  24.65   , eco 8.12

 

Ash bowls in all phases and can bat, bhajji cud also slog but i dont remeber how was he in other phases

Bhajji at his peak was a genuine wicket taker.

 

With Ash, I am not just looking at in which phases can he bowl because what I want is whoever is bowling in whatever phases, they give me wickets except maybe in death overs. I don't want a defensive option in poweplay because ultimately the batsman will get set and become good enough to take on the bowling later. 

 

Having said all this, I just checked that that Yuzi is still to play his first T20 icc tournament so he definitely cant be in this team and Ashwin had a more full fledged T20 career than Bhajji with better stats so probably no other option than Ash to pick.

if anything bhajji in last many of yrs was not a wkt taker, in 2010 t20 Wc he didnt even take one wkt ........not even one . Even in ODI he lost his place coz his wkts dried up , yuvi took more wkts then him in 2011 Wc . At his peak t20 didnt even start , his peak was actually his intial yrs 

 

bhajji s/r is 24 and Ashwin 20 in t20i format, Ashwin has played more but that cud go any side. 28 games is not a less sample size incase of bhajji

In a theoretical ATG list players are presumed in their peak, not their 2022 version

what is their presumed peak? Some of them are yet to enter or are just entering their peak

 

The has beens apart from Yuvi in 2007 (debut 2000) and Kohli in 2014-2016 (debut 2009) have done nothing much (For e.g. Rohit played 2007 WC as a youngster not at his "peak". If not at his or near his peak now what is he doing in the 11. Similar case for someone like a Bhuvi.) 

 

If a top team has supposedly 8 ATG players in its 11 and still does not inspire enough confidence, ..., ...

And irfan pathan, people often underrate his performance in our 07 campaign he played huge part in both semi and final ,he was a clutch player like Gambhir, though not as gifted as pandya with bat but a very good lower order bat plus a much better bowler than pandya

Rahul's problem is same and that is ICC tournament. The fact that SKY in bilaterals so quickly is matching Rahul already that Rahul needs to produce some performance in ICC tournaments to make a stronger case for him.

 

For this reason, I will pick Gambhir ahead of KLR/SKY.
