The Litton Das knock

While it is true that India found much less swing in the PP today than in any other bowling innings in the World Cup, I think Litton played an unreal innings and probably the innings with highest impact at the World Cup. 

 

Cricviz rated Litton to have scored 33 runs more than an average batter would have for the quality of deliveries faced making him the highest impact batsman in the match . The rest of the BD lineup scored exactly what an average international batting lineup would have scored against the deliveries faced. 

 

By contrast,  KL Rahul was the most impactful batter for India as he scored around 13 runs more than what the average batter would have scored for the deliveries faced.

What makes it even more impressive is that while KL scored at 135 % of the rate an average batter would have, Litton scored at 222% the rate for the deliveries he faced.  Part of the reason   he was so destructive was that he was smashing bowlers off every length

 

 

 

 

Contrast that with what Virat Kohli scored 

 

 

 

 

Clearly, no bowler had an answer to Litton. 

Only after his run out could bowlers exert control/take wickets.

 

Brutal knock.

While the hitting was brutal and silenced the crowd, I appreciated his hitting. Even length ball was dispatched and full length was perfectly placed. Nobody could do jackshyte. How do they arrive at how much an average international batsman would score for a particular delivery? That way Sky could be the most impactful player as he manufactures shots out of good deliveries.

One they could have done DK coming up to the stumps. He had to leave the crease make the play. But DK would have leg go some byes

He does. He is actually very good at it. But problem is in current mental state he will make a mess of that too

Both Arshdeep and Bhuvi induced 2 nicks from him. DK in fact caught the first one too but DK never acts confident so Erasmus gave soft signal as drop.

Based on historical averages for similar deliveries over the past 16 years from ball tracking data. It's not entirely accurate but it's the closest estimate to understand how good a particular batter has been
