Shocking that in 10 years we still don’t have a replacement for Ashwin.

Traditional off spin is a dying art. We'll see plenty of wristies and SLAs, but Lyon/Ashwin are probably last of their kind in this no-chucking era.

Sundar can max play as 3rd spinner in Asia but his batting ceiling is very high, he is the closest we will see as replacement of Ashwin (should be seen as middle order candidate but our dumb TM wants him as AR), but at least in SC, he won't be half the matchwinner Ashwin has been for last 10 years. 9-10 MOTS, 9 MOTMs, and not even 100 tests played, tough to fill such big boots.

Ashwin and Jadeja both have been such assets for us, hope this insane home domination era doesn't come to an end against Aussies. Even a drawn series at home is like a loss for our team.

If Jaddu is fully fit, Axar cannot start, period. As good as he has been, we want variety and X factor in our bowling unit, and we won't need his runs as well. His time will come, Jaddu keeps getting injured these days and is in his mid 30s.

Ash-Jaddu-Kuldeep is the way to go, for the 2 spots for quicks rotate among Shami, Bumrah, Umesh, Siraj. This is a deadly bowling attack on paper even though Ash and Jaddu may not be in their prime any more. Add in Sundar as 6th bowling option and , this team can beat Aussies even with liabilities in our top 4.

Kuldeep will carry it forward. Axar will replace Jaddu. Ofcourse can't replace their batting bonus and fielding in case of Jaddu. That's why they are so invaluable.

technically we can replace one of those top 4 with Axar too. Jaddu can well bat at 6 and Ashwin at 7.

Pujara, Kohli have to be gone.It was pathetic to watch Indian number 4 bat worse than number 11 .

Bowling is set, three spinners and two fast bowlers. Ash and Jaddu along with Kuldeep. Umesh and  Siraj should start as fast bowlers. If Bumrah is available then he will replace one of them.

our bowling will be good again with quicker pitches but our batting is in complete and utter shambles.Even Iyear has huge weakness with the short ball.we have 1 relaible batter who we can trust and that is Pant-just one.there is no fix either

Rahul-mental midget

Fatty-no runs and out of form

Gill-inconsistency is his hall mark

Kohli-should not be playing red ball cricket

Pujara-is a good trier but its his last series on home soil

Iyer-cant play the short or the moving ball but has mental fortitude to stick around

when we break it down like this its obvious the aussies are huge favorites to get back the BG trophy  even though they cant play spin.

My wish ....

1. Jaiswal

2. Pujara

3. Kishan

4. Gill

5. Pant ( c )

6. Washington .. a true fighter

7. Jadeja

8. Ashwin

9. Kuldeep / Shami  ( based on pitch )

10. Bumrah

11. Siraj / Prasidh / Sen

.... We need batters who can maximize the output of their 50 to 150 ball stay at the crease (  the usual test innings length these days from Indians )

.... Pujara will be the sheet anchor and Washington, Jadeja and Ashwin will stem any collapse.

....  Alternate LHB and RHB till 5

....  I want to prepare 2 tall quicks ... Prasidh and Sen, who can use bounce at pace as a weapon on flatter tracks.

My team for BGT

Rohit

Rahul

Pujara

Goat

Rahane

Pant

Ashwin

Jadeja

Axar or kuldeep or Shardul

Arshdeep or Bhuvaneshwar

Bumrah or Shami

No pretenders. Only proven players. We can rest Bumrah so that he can play in much bigger and better tournament IPL.

I see Jadeja, Rohit and Bumrah in so many teams. All 3 are coming back from injury. Jaddu and Bumrah after such a long layoff. Most on this very forum keep talking about all the evil in Indian cricket where people just take their position for granted yet opening to bringing jaddu and bumrah right back in without any competitive match.

Exactly we need to allow Bumrah to recover. IPL is the biggest event in cricket and we need bumrah fit for it. Nobody watches BGT.

that's a good XI, but pujara is not trustworthy any longer. might as well go with mayank in home conditions or try someone new.

second, Iyer should be in SC in place of Gill. Kishan doesn't strike mas as test player - if you need fast scorer, both rinku and sarfaraz seem better bets

what we will get if Dravidiot and rohit have his way:

Kela

Rohit

Chepu

Brat

Rahane

Pant

Jaddu

Ashwin

Axar

Undercutter

Shardul

[alleged batting till 11]

ideally, what I would like if everyone is fit:

jasiwal --> best young opener in country

rohit --> I am not a fan of him, but I recognize two things: (a) you need at least one senior, and (b) rohit's game against spin used to be quite good [not sure how it is now]

S. Iyer --> best player of spin bowling. period.

Sundar --> our best all-round batting talent in terms of potential [but needs to get more chances to actualize it]

R. Pant

Gill//SKY/Sarfaraz --> not convinced fully about any of them; each have pros & cons

Jadeja

Ashwin

Axar/Kuldeep/Umesh --> choose as per conditions. all of them can bat to varying degrees [umesh has 20+ batting avg in SC since 2017]

Bumrah

Sen/Prasidh

My preferred team is largely similar. So, I like your team too.

I will just try Gill at 4 and Washington at 6. And prefer Kuldeep over Axar if Jaddu is playing too.

I really hope that Prasidh or Sen become fit and are selected. We need a proper tall quick and not Unadkat.

I am trying to build a multi-condition team, which is why Shreyas is not there. Plus I feel that Starc and Cummins will bounce him out even in India.

Rohit in place of Pujara would be better but if he stays then he will be the captain and be uber defensive again. Hence Pujara.

Rinku's ability against pace is not known and Sarfraz has failed in the A team games recently. I think Kishan can be a good test player if allowed to play freely.

yeah, that's fair enough. our bowling selections are virtually identical, and that's what wins matches

What I like about the lineup is that it bats deep, all 1-8 can score a century in subcontinental conditions.

Vs Australia we need this ability to beat them.

Given India must win 3 matches vs Australia, they will likely blow up the pitches and they will be low, slow turners. I will back this lineup to beat Australia if that is the case.

A quadruple spin attack of Sundar, Jaddu, Ash and Kuldeep will be too powerful for the Australian lineup.
