For the same reason that  Allahabad is now Prayagraj and Aurangabad is Sambhajinagar.

We want to wipe out all traces of barbaric Islamic tyrants who invaded India.

Read a bit more on this. Seems like Ground's name still remains the same. Just the stadium name has changed.

DDCA clarified that only the stadium had been renamed and that the ground would be still called the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground.

Arun Jaitley has also been credited with turning the stadium into a modern facility, increasing its seating capacity and building better facilities for players during his tenure as DDCA president.

This is not true is it? Delhi stadium looks crap. People sharing pictures of crappy facilities even now. This stadium doesn't deserve his name. This is just politicians using their power to name after theiry party reps.

His son who has taken over has done nothig either- an ancient stadium with filthy toilets and facilities. Just because AJ was president, they feel they have to name the stadium after him. I think stadiums should NOT be named after individuals esp politicians. Cant we come up with innovative names like the west does.. Elland Road, Old Trafford, Headingley, The Oval, WACA- all seem very innovative and memorable names

WACA is innovative?  WACA = Western Australia Cricket Association

So, DDCA = Dhadka?

One can make changes to it and both get it looking better and modernise it in no time.

You don't need to tear down a whole ground for a couple of eyesores and architectural monstrosities which can be easily corrected.

Delhi stadium was built what? 1883? This needs a complete overhaul. Few cosmetic changes won't do jack. Embarrassing to see a stadium that is akin to Pakistan stadiums
