What has this got to do with south vs/ north? It will save a lot in exchequer to have assembly polls along with national polls. I think AP and Orissa went to assembly polls with LS polls now , 4 states went to polls just six months ago, it could have extended to LS poll date. Can all states form it similarly? If a party loses vote of confidence and if here is no other party to claim vote of confidence, let it it be ruled by President's rule until next election cycte. Not hard to implement.

why southern states will not agree is that regional parties dominate the south,if you only have one election then they will fear of getting railroaded by a popular politician at the Center like Modi-voters most likely will vote for his party even in Assembly election.

First live in ncr region of Haryana then talk. No water, frequent power cuts, poor law an order, garbage everywhere. It is much worse than kejriwal's Delhi

I have lived and worked in Gurgaon for 7 years 2014-21. I also own a flat there in sector 37. These bijli-paani-kachra have always been a issue, not just now. Paani is still a problem but the electricity situation has improved a lot in the last 10 years. Petty crimes, pollution will always be there unless people also improve. Organised crime, gang violence is lower in Haryana than in neighbouring Punjab.

Anyways I was specifically talking about corruption which has certainly reduced under Khatter compared to before. The direct bank transfers and digitization of govt work has helped a lot. Now the State services exams are conducted on merit & not on kharchi-parchi like before. Khatter is personally an honest man unlike Hooda.

Kejriwal's emotional appeal before going back to Tihar:giggle:

Ek numbed ka chalu hai ye…. If not for freebies even delhite knows his swearing and fake tears. Even during his early days just to become CM inspite of swearing in for his son he took support of same party against whom he contested election. Maha dogla insaan hai ye.

Kejriwal will still win state unfortunately. A retiree I met is going through vote for him because of free electricity. His pension 5x more than what he needs. He is willing to destroy the future of city for few thousand rupees of savings.

All the Makaan Maliks of Delhi, no matter how big a Modi Bhakt, love Kejriwal for the free Bijli-Paani . Despite it being 'free' these landlords still charge sizable sums from their gullible tenants and make an extra profit.

Excitement about election results is incredible in India. It's like IPL now. This might be the biggest hindrance for one nation one election.

it's much more interesting than the fake IPL.

I am sure at some point Gukesh, Pragg,Arjun will become world champs, at least 2 of these 3. Just don't know if it will happen so soon.

Really, in so much heat, So many Indians came out to vote.

Hatsoff to people of India and Election Commission (authorities and workers) resilience and will to make this happen.

Our democracy will be reaching 100 years uninterrupted.

Cimpare it with US where president candidate is being put under pressure by Courts because he is not deep state guy or UK where people are casting vote on race ( hamza varadkar Sunak were all unfit candidates for deep state )

How is the voting percentage in the last phase? Has the voter fatigue/apathy set in or people still enthusiastic to vote

Posted (edited)

2019 was the moat boring election with nothing to look forward to. This time it is interesting.

Firstly, it will tell you if the Modi is dead or not. It will give a clear indication to if BJP needs to find a successor soon enough (they do).

Thing is that both major parties have their loyal voter share (basically those who vote for no reason). Even in last election, Congress, at their worst state, managed 27% votes. So, in a relatively better state, they are likely to get more than that.

BJP won has a similar loyal fanbase. But what made a difference in last election were a few factors---

1. The Modi Brand

2. Hindutava wave

3. Article 370

4. Nationalistic gimmicks

Now with Modi Fatigue setting in, let's see how much beside the loyal voters share they get to.

Secondly, the election basically takes place on less than 200 seats, like always. Others are just formality.

Like we know Kerala and Tamil Nadu will be wiped out by a single party. This time, TMC will be stronger in WB, so 25-30 seats are mere formality. BJP has like 50 such seats in UP, rest will be close, but they will still have upper hand.

But as the ruling party already peaked in some states, either by election or horse trading, they can't get any better. Most of the northeast, UP, Haryana, West Bengal, Telangana.

As always, there are 40-50 seats where both BJP and Congress have not fielded a candidate.

So, from these 200 seats, each party will get an idea of what to do in next cycle.

Because of the hate speeches, the BJP vote share is likely to drop Muslim dominated constituencies. Hindu vote share has already peaked in northern states, so may not change much from here.

My guess ia that NDA has 200 seats fixed already, UPA has 100, and remaining, maybe 15-20.

Thirdly, we will get a better idea of what's going on with ECI. One has to be blind to say the rejections of candidates in Surat and Varanasi are not problematic.

In all likelihood, NDA gets 300-320 seats and UPA 180-200.

Any deflection from this result means there is some foulplay in some seats. I earlier did not believe in these calls, but it's ECI has been in news for all wrong reasons now.

Depending on the result, we may get to see a delimitation of constituencies next cycle as well.

We should ideally get two new faces for prime minister in next election. Too bored of familiar names.

@coffee_rules, In polls, I guess it should be NDA in place of BJP, no???

number of seats will go way up for 2029 election,if BJP is smart they will redraw maps so that Muslim votes are concentrated in certain seats but wont matter in most seats-that is how the republican party gerrymanders the seats in the US.

I called it BJP+ to mean NDA. At least from media coverage, the fatigue factor of Modi has not set in. But he jas definitely  aged quite a bit in 10 years, voice is not as clear. If he wins , this will be the last , he better get the stage set for the next leadership

In my view, we should reach 7-8 trillion GDP in next 5 years. And we should encourage population increase.

Thankfully. Someone said it. There's too much over overpopulation propaganda going on. India's population is increasing because the population share of 15-49 is more than half. In next 35 years, it will lessen and only TFR will determine our population.

Total fertility rate is declining with a dangerous steep.
