Iyer made a 100 in the warm up game. So is KL Rahul. So both are considered fit one would hope. If they are half fit this would be a colossally stupid move.

Other than Chahal's removal , the squad has no surprises.Most of these players select themselves. Agarkar has not done anything great here.

 

Selecting a 14 member squad for world cup will be challenging.He has left the major headaches to captain and coach.

Atleast one selection is not basde on merit. SKY. Since his last 50 early last year his scores are

 

6, 27, 16, 13, 9, 8, 4, 34*(shortened T20 game), 6, 4, 31, 14, 0, 0, 0, 19, 24, 35

 

His T20 scores during the same phase was the opposite.

 

India could have gone with another  spinner or all rounder.  Bishnoi or Sundar.

Can't blame the selectors here at all. This is the most logical squad we could pick right now.

That spot was created just to placate Sanju fanboys. Having said that Sanju is a better choice than SKY in the one dayers. 

 

They both have played 7 games together. Sanju has done slightly better. SKY is distinctly average.

Rahul is still injured, but still they have selected him and Samson is backup.

Hope better sense prevails and we are not carrying injured player.

He was saying yesterday that Chahal is as good as Ashwin in the field...I was like "this fellow calls himself as sports journalist, yes don't have a sense of who's good in what". Ashwin is slow but a safe fielder...way better than Chahal.

They will be there..KL recovered from the main injury but still has some niggle. Hence Samson is included in case KL doesn't recover.

Considering the squad selected Bumrah,Prasidh, Iyer,Rahul were injured .Bumrah and Prasidh have played in T20 .Bumrah is still.bowling within himself. Both of them have history of getting injured.Rahul is still not fit.Iyer has been declared fit but he has not played any competitive game during this period. 

Rahul,Iyer and Bumrah will make the playing 11.Wouldn't it will be risky to include injured players in  the playing 11 without any match practice. They may also be rusty and we can't expect them to be in the form from the first match.

There is no comparison in skill level of both these players... SKY at his best can do something which Samson can't even dream about. 

Consistency is an issue with both but SKY at least has T20 success to his name & not a mental midget.

Seems like Tilak varma's selection doesn't go well. He is still raw in longer formats. I have to say Rinku singh is the kind of players India needs. Taking the game deep and finishing. Anyway he won't be in the XI.

He is only one year younger than Kohli. He has admitted he is learning how to play one dayers. Do we really need to back a guy who has not so flattering list A stats, ODI stats? It is not really justificable. They are picking him purely based on hope. He still has no clue how to bat 40 overs in case if India loses 4 wickets up front.  Rahul Dravid is spoon feeding him "play 50 balls". They are trying to convert him into a ODI player when we will be playing world cup.

Tilak Verma  has potential. But Rinku singh seems a better option given the kind of role he plays. You need players to stay till 50th over and finish. There is no MSD, Yuvraj type of players. Closest is this guy other than Shreyas whose form has to be assessed again.
