There was no debate on No.4 and 5. We had decided 18 months ago only who were the contenders for that spot - Rahul Dravid

2019 we were chasing 240. Hows that 'far too many runs' in this age?

It was 50/50 at best given the conditions, we also played 3 W/K too many, a way OTH oldie, behaal & Bhukhe who were all massive passengers! Oh & the CT 2017 final definitely left scars, took BRat down a couple of pegs as well.

Those are batting issues. Bowlers did well. Ofcourse Shami instead of Bhuvi/Chahal would have restricted score further and provided some batting depth but still score should have been easily chased.

English overcast conditions, rain interruptions, juicy pitch etc.. regular pitch and conditions we would have beaten NZ

Even then 240 is easily chaseable. They batted like idiots

Regular pitch Eng would have scored more

So why not prepare backups?

Though have to say Rahul's tenure has been unlucky with too many injuries

Injuries played a major role in 2019 too. If Dhawan was not injured, he was looking good, KL Rahul would have played at number 5 where he would have done better than DK.DK would not have played then.

Thats only one injury. The farce of no. 4 position wasnt due to injury.

We would have won the whole thing if Dhawan wasn't injured, he is a clutch player and was in very good form.

It was not one injury.Dhawan is one of India's best  batsman in ICC tournaments. He scored a match winning century before getting injured.

Rahul would have played at number 4 breaking up all RHB in the top.It was a different lineup with Dhawan.

It was still one injury. Can happen to anyone. And he was hit by Starc on finger. Nowadays they get injured without playing.

They should have had more backup than moving no. 4 to opening.

And if Rahul was designated no.4 , why didnt he bat there before WC? Why waste time with Rayudu?

Rahul was still very inexperienced back then. Not necessary that if he batted at 4, he would have done well.
