Axar position is untenable now

Axar confidence is at all time low. He can't bowl even on turner. His batting at No.8 is nothing special.

 

Its a SOS to selectors. Don't be rigid. Get Washington or even Tilak in. They can easily bowl 5-7 overs and make team batting much stronger.

Washington is better bet. Can bat in top order. We will have 6 RHBs in top 6 once Iyer back, can try to fit him in before Pandya at least. Also a very good off spinner.

His batting against spin is good, but  he should bowl better than this on a turning pitch considering the position he bats. Someone like Tilak is far better batter than Axar & might perform similar to him with the ball. That probably makes his position untenable.

Axar is a good player, but with Jadeja in the team his utility is limited.

We need variety as Jaddu & Kuldeep are by default options.

 

Once Jaddu retires, then Axar can get a consistent run.

If Axar is a traditional left arm spinner ( like Wellagale ) who flights the ball, he would still offer variety. But he is just a darter and we already had one in Jadeja.

Never made sense in first place to have him. Sundar or Ash should replace him.

He was out of LOIs squad for good 3-4 years, that England tour of India resurrected his career, performed in tests but drafted in ODI-T20s teams too on the basis of that performance and since then he has been part of squad without getting dropped. Played him in wt20 2022 where he wasn't going to be effective at all. In India he can be useful but with Jaddu in side, I doubt he will get chances, just a waste of a spot.

Give him confidence. He is more than capable of playing 24(10) ball inning against quality fast bowler than Axar.

His great record against Eng was in part because he was bowling darts on square tuners that skidded on. Then he found out cricket isn't a game of darts against Oz. He looks a really slow learner!
