Axar position is untenable now

Axar's bowling has gone to the dogs in the last 1.5 years in all 3 formats .

He has to be replaced in the WC squad ,we cannot Carry two in the same mould (Jadeja and Axar).

Asalanka outperformed him by a country mile tonight ,bet even Rohit would have had he chanced his arm

That 26(36) was so crucial on this track, and in the situation we were in. A proper match-winning innings. That's what you expect from your all-rounder - ideally, contribute with both bat and ball, if not at least be good in one area. Axar did that with the bat today. Will very soon come good with the ball as well.

Axar has regressed somewhat . Needs to just consult Shastri .

part of the reason he is bowing darts is cos in india , most decks are just flat and if u bowl darts all the time , u contain the sixes .

Sundar is a better option for sure given his decent off spin and ability to bat against fast bowling is better than axar .

for some reason, management does not think off spin is useful in odi.

We keep talking about Sundar here on this forum. I was a fan until last year but I have given up on him.. Not interested in guys who cant stay fit.

Fitness is a must at top level. Big fan of SHAW also the way he scores and looks nice to the watch. However he is too fat for Indian team.

In between Tilak and Sundar, I would prefer Tilak at this point. But Tilak at 8 ? or Jadeja at 8 ?  There is no point. Might as well get Iyer in and let Jadeja bat at 8. Or forget the small batting ability that will be needed once in a while in LOI and get a proper bowler.

A good all rounder would be Axars batting and Jadejas bowling and fielding

Jadeja needs time to settle, which does not bode well for a no 7 and can not accumulate briskly either

Meanwhile Axar only fires darts in , no variety what soever, but his batting is better than Jadeja in LOIs

Axar batting, Jaddu bowling is not good enough to ignore the deficiency in the other department. They are bits and pieces. So only one can play if they need a spinning all rounder with Kuldeep locking other spot.

That and also theyre both slow left arm bowlers so both can not play. A fit Sundar would be so good.

Absolutely, pitches in India don't show true calibre of our spinners,

Run of the mill bowling spin gets you wicket here especially in tests, given the dumbness of our selectors they tend to pick that spinner for other formats as well

Wickets are so cheap here in India for spinners offlate

Our ODI World Cup squads have always been hampered by this spin obsession. Only we pick so many spinners and so few fast bowlers consistently when even our rubbish fast bowlers of the past have outperformed spinners. Other sides always picked 5-6 and sometimes even 7 seaming options especially for longer tournaments from 1999 onwards

Ashish Kapoor in 96, Amay Khurasiya in 99,  Chawla in 2011, Axar Patel in 2015,   Jadeja in 2019.

They were all 3rd spinners and simply ate up space in the squad. The only reason Jadeja came in was because Kuldeep was struggling in 2019.

In all these tournaments, the fast bowlers always outperformed the 2 best spinners let alone the 3rd spinner warming a spot in the squad.

Just select your 2 best spinners. There is no scenario in ODI's where you will need 3. The extra spinner is always a waste of a spot.

In long tournaments like 2003, 2011, 2015 and 2019, the main 2/3 seamers get flogged into playing every single match and are usually exhausted by the time of knockouts.  Saw that in 2003 final, 2011 final with Zak who was below par etc.

Rotation of quicks is very important and having an extra fast bowler is always helpful. 3 spinners in any ODI squad is always nonsensical especially considering the pace resources we have now.

Our main spinner Behaal was the actual waste in 2019, Jadeja was arguably the best player on display in SF vs NZ & did well in just the one match he played before that.

Vikrant Gupta & few other sports channel (viz: Sports Yaari) are still rooting for his comeback.   I think it must hv something to do with regional bias.   LOL.

Actually, Chahal was very important for the first 2 wins against  SA and Australia. Took important wickets and kept both batting lineups in check.

Kuldeep was the worst of the 3 spinners going into that semi. Everybody played him well including SL and BD. Only PAK played him badly.

And Kuldeep was probably the highest-rated spinner going into the World Cup. Also, our highest-rated spinner going into this World Cup as well.
