Klaasen the best player of spin In the world?

Guy is the first one to comprehensively buck the stereotype that white guys can't play spin as he is imo far and away the best player of spin in the world right now.  

He failed today but this is based on not just the previous few matches but his body of work over quite a long period of time.

I don't if best player but certainly hands down best basher of spin in the world. No one attacks and demolishes spin as much as this guy

We overrate their choking at times.  They haven't actually been good enough to win any World Cup. You need batting firepower(high strike rates), a good winning record and a good number of experienced players(75+ caps) in a squad in that order of importance.

 

In 1999, they didn't have the batting firepower of PAK, OZ. In 2011, they didn't have experience.

 

Rest of the World Cups, they were clearly 2nd best to Aussies and/or some other team.

With a lot of recency bias, yes (plus with a * which reads on his day). 

 

Remains untested outside home conditions or rather hasn't done anything of note outside home. In the India last year, did well in a couple of matches but failed in the rest. If he were an Indian player, he would be called inconsistent and a home track bully.

Mostly a basher who can attack spinners on his day. 

More in the league of Maxwell, Pandya.

Conway, Iyer, Williamson are good in the middle overs.

They wee actually not that good at any point in time.

 

Even this time, they look really strong but just don't have the experience apart from 3 players. 

 

The T20 side was damned the moment they made Bavuma captain . Horrible T20 batsman who played only for quota reasons.

Klassen announced himself as a spin basher long back when he destroyed Chahal.  He has been consistently proving that as well. Sure he might get out to spinner sometimes.  He can still bully spinners.

That 2015 WC team looked quite good tbh, psted many record 400+ scores in the run up to that tournament. They dropped the ball in the semis by playing Philander and not Abbott while also seeing the fat end of the rain interruptions and DL.

That side lost comfortably to India in the group stages and then lost to a weak Pakistan side . Even if they had beaten NZ, they would have 100 % lost in the final - Abbott or not.

 

 The closest they came to having a World Cup-winning team was in 2011. They were the strongest team going into that Cup, second to none, skill-wise.  But many of those guys were simply too raw - Faf being the prime example. And in a tough chase , he completely choked when NZ put him under pressure and sledged the hell out of him.

 

The 2023 Saffer side is quite similar. Very high skilled and look very strong contenders but apart from QDK and Miller, their batters don't have the experience to deal with tough chases and bowlers, apart from Rabada, won't be able to respond while defending middling scores etc.

In ODIs on pattas, yes. on turning tracks, especially vs quality spin, he will be dead meat. would rather take someone like peak karun nair over him
