Yes, true. I used to sit and watch all games of India, even Goli-soda-Nirodh cup matches. These days, I catch only glimpses of highlights.

The only India Zimbabwe match that I remember was played on Jun 18 1983. Didn't watch of course, but will never forget.

 

But then again, that was my childhood. By 1996, I was a grown-ass man :-)

Those were the days of picking players from all the zones or/and state quota picks.

Another allrounder from Zimbabwe Neil.Johnson.He single handedly won them match against South Afrika in world cup.

neil johnson was in the first tier of ARs by 90s standards. his batting was almost enough to be selected as specialist, and his bowling was pretty handy

Was this 96 or 97? I remember this match vividly. What a fighter Robin Singh was! 

Srinath was fiery fast in the series. I remember, Zimbabwe was the only country where they used to tag Srinath as ' Right Arm Fast'. 

 

Coming to Andy Blignaut, he was a real talent. Could bowl in excess of 145, mostly around 148ish. He was an amazing allrounder. He would be a top tier player for even a team like the then Australian.

That Robert Mugabe deprived us of next gen cricketers from Zimbabwe. 

 

Sure most cricket nerds here will remember this match and series. This Zim team wasn't as good as the one in the late 90s but it gave us a scare at home.

So true, ofcourse his batting was his stronger suit but his bowling as par as well.

 

I remember in the 99 WC he was opening the batting as well as bowling both for Zimbabwe.

 

It's a shame that a player with so much potential like him only played for 2 years and left Zimbabwe cricket after 2000.

Australia was scratching barrels in that era by playing average allrounders like Brandon Jullian, Ian Harvey & James Hopes.

blignaut was not that fast, as you make him out to be. a few balls in the mid 140s, but mostly operated in high 130s. he was a great ball striker too. could and should have ended with better records.

 

as for srinath, there was one ball he bowled to A. campbell in Zim that was 155+. even in the age of umran & co, one of the fastest by an indian

yes, he would be a great fit for t20s. use him as floater + consistent flat, fast, and accurate spin + ATG fielding. kind of like  boom-boom afridi, but with lesser bowling and greater fielding.

I guess you are mistaken. Blignaut was really fast. As for Srinath, as a matter of fact, I was the one who got that quote from Campbell way back in 2001/ 2002 which has been reported by many afterwards. Including Ashwin. Was with Times of India then. And that ball was at 157.

I don't think I am. Blignaut had a whippy action which made the balls look faster than they were. and I did see some balls at 145+, but as I wrote, most of them were high 130s. I saw most 90s Zim games, since they were one of my fav underdogs then, and I used to watch more cricket too
