WC 2023 - Hardik Pandya vs Ravindra Jadeja

Jadeja needed an impact performance as he was looking like the weakest link if we check all the performances India had since Asia Cup.

Since Asia Cup,

1. Kishan and Pandya scored runs under   pressure vs Pak.

2. Kohli and Rahul hit hundreds vs Pak in 200 run win.

3. Siraj and Shami had their 5-fers too.

4. Rohit got a blistering 80 in the match vs Australia.

5. Gill was consistently scoring.

6. Iyer got a hundred vs Australia.

Great that he delivered the performance today in a big game vs Aussies. Terrific spell that otherwise Aussies would have got 250.

2/3 and remaining not out on 97  is MOM worthy.

True if you look at that in isolation. But as I said bowlers need to recognized too for getting team in winning position.

Lets imagine a reverse situation. Team gets 350 on back of a ton. Opposition gets a great start but then a bowler gets 3-4 wickets to close the game. Will he get MOTM? Never. Batter will get it for setting it up.

Bowlers always play second fiddle.

Pandya played good knocks against Australia, WI, England and even Pakistan in last world cup. Jadeja can't do that kind of hitting at the back end of innings against good bowling.

His only double digit innings in world cup is that his classic lost cause stat padding against NZ in SF.

As much as I like Jaddu as a bowler, his batting doesn't suit the no. 7 role.

Today, we saw Jadeja delivered his career best performance with bowl given the stakes were high.

At chennai it would have been shocking if he didn't deliver. Good that he met the expectations. Besides criticism is more about his batting as he plays as an all rounder at no.7.

Delivering and being the star performer are different things. He was the star bowler in this game, not very often he has done that.

This game with bowl, WC'19 semis vs NZ with bat and CT'13 finals vs Eng- these are his few quality performances in ODI cricket.

We would not get a better batsman unless top order bowl. Axar was an option but then he won't bowl as good.
