What has he done since Gabba? India's most overrated player in a long time.

What did you want him to do?

His innings against Pakistan in Asia Cup was the turning point in India's fortunes and Pakistan's shambolic performances after.

He is not overrated. He is India's most talented player since Sachin. Generational player.

18 tests, average 32. And we know what he has done in WTC finals, this WC etc. Since Sachin, we have produced batsmen like Sehwag, VVS, Kohli.

Gill is 24.

Even Kohli became THE Kohli in 2012 with Adelaide century and then the two innings vs SL and Pak. Then made another jump in 2018.

Gill will make the jump this year or the next and then next jump 4-5 years later.

Rohit made his first jump in 2013 and then second in 2019.

Jaddu 2013.

Bumrah 2018 during the Aus series.

Woh to Bobby aur Rizwan bhi karte hai, un sab se pehle Amla. Soft, impactless runs.

Those guys are in their late 20s.

Gill will make the jump soon.

Amla was an ODI statpadder but was great in tests - series wins in Aus and england plus draw in India.

To be fair to Gill, he was never an opener, even he himself wants to bat in the MO. His technique is much better suited to MO.

I think once Jaiswal becomes regular in Test side, Gill will move to no.4, even Sachin never wanted to open in tests.

He failed at #3 in WI though. I am not convinced of his game against classical test match spin bowling.
