Devdutt Padikkal vs Rajat Patidar for #3?

Patidar is worse than Unadkat the batsman...at least Unadkat scored some precious runs in that 4th innings chase in BD. That pitch was 10x worse than this one and BD spinners were better.

it's shocking how poor ind batting is. every year it keeps falling to a new low. in that BD series, we had Iyer in good form, and ashwin too. now, neither of them are here to rescue us (Iyer deservedly so)

Is there any reason why he played so meekly ? At least could have gone all guns blazing in his last test. Never seen any batsmen with so much self doubt and low confidence in recent years. Even a 19 year old Sai Sudarshan looked more confident in his first tour of South Africa. Anyway he got his chance and blew it.

nope, dravidiot will play patidar no matter what

I think Rohit has more say in deciding the playing11 combo.   Rohit is a certified moron.  So, he may continue with Patidar who will score golden ducks. But Team Ind will again find a way to win the test.

Feels harsh to drop someone so soon.

However, he has not looked good and him being in the XI and getting a score would do more harm than good in the long run.

Time for someone new.

I can't remember anyone looking this bad at international level. If i may say so he looked worse than KS BHarat.

Rajat patidar is here to stay lol

Someone in cricinfo has awful lot of time to analyze short stays of Patidar's short career so far.

Seems like Dravid and Rohit rate him very high.  But at some point he has to fire at home even if they are looking at him for Australia.  He stays leg side of the ball like Gill so perhaps his technique demands pace and bounce.

He should be better off playing ultra aggressive cricket at this point imo.

He is made to look like KS Bharat & DK at this point...

Both of them are not good enough for international cricket.

I have seen Paddikal and I know a squealer when i see one.

Also, selectors should look more towards mumbai/Gujarat and North India, modern South Indian cricketers often flatter to deceive and are usually very timid.

There are no upcoming talented youngsters from the south, all of them are pretty mediocre, good enough just for that phony league IPL.

yes, like that Glass Princess Sundar. should not be playing even ranjis with that glass body of his.

of the current S. Indian cricketers, Ashwin is the best, but even he goes missing very often.

we should have tried someone who has a game for tests. most players who came through the ranks and became successful had 60+ Ranji avg: SRT around 90, dravid around 80, VVS around 70; moving to modern era, Gill had around 70 at some point, sarfaraz was 70-80, jaiswal around 80, etc.

Apart from KL Rahul i can't think of a specialist batsman playing Tests from South in recent times.  Last one was M Vijay. We saw lohli sucking balls for 3 yeasr Then Gujara and Khanae averaging in mid 20s for 3 years.  You sitll have to back the right player. North or South or West or East or Central.  You have to let go of players at the right time.

but who is there from south? sai sudharsan cannot handle shardul thakur, pradosh paul is clearly a one-season wonder, jagadeesan is a hack, padikkal looks like a weaker version of kl, etc

South doesn't mean just TN. We have karnataka, andhra,  hyderabad, Kerala as well. We can't summarily discard players based on region.
