putrevus Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 (edited) 2007 was won by core players and young fast bowlers. Gabba was won by again core players in Pant and Pujara and would be core player in Gill. When your main fast bowler is a no show in any crunch match plus there are no young fast bowlers who have delivered like Sreesanth and RP Singh did in 2007. This constant whining about players who have been getting the team to at least knockouts is getting old. Edited May 12, 2024 by putrevus

Pant was not a core player in 2020 (he didn't even play 1st test thanks to Kaptaan Kohli), and neither was Gill. One should speak of players status as it was at that time, not looking at them retrospectively and anointing them whatever their current status is. You could/should have named core players as ashwin or jadeja, who did play vital roles instead. Perhaps you didn't follow the tons of articles written about how that team management (especially Ravi Boozidiot) publicly castigated Pant many times. This constant whining about players who have been getting the team to at least knockouts is getting old. In 2007 there were no "core players". Core players at the time were Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid, Zaheer, Kumble etc. If we had that core, just like we have right now, we would've bombed out at the group stage. And the Gabba Test was not won by "core players". In the first innings Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar scored the runs who brought us back. Siraj, Thakur, Sundar, and Nattu took the wkts. In the 2nd innings Gill (who was playing his debut series), and Pant, who was not even selected in the team in the 1st Test by the so called "King" were the top run scorers. That time Pant wasn't the core player - he was 2nd in the list to Saha else Pant would've started the 1st Test. I know your love for Kohli over-shadows everything but at the very least don't lie so blatantly. We all saw Gabba Test and that series. Now the revisionist history from you has suddenly made Thakur, Pant, Sundar, Gill core players at the time. Have some shame in so blatantly revising the history. And along with the young bowlers the so called "King" and that fatso Rohit have to score runs as well. Maybe you're singing from the same hymn sheet as Rohit where after scoring a below par 168 in WT20 semi on a patta at Adelaide, Rohit blamed the bowlers. And if getting team to the knockouts is a big thing for the so called greats, they better stop playing. Cricket is a sport played by a handful of nations and there've been barely 3 good teams over the last decade along with India - Aus, Eng, and NZ. And if you think simply to get past SL, WI, Pak, Zim, SA to the knockouts is a great achievement, I can very well see why Kohli is a GOAT and King for you. It's fanboys like you who've enabled and perpetuated this culture of under-performance. "Oh look we made it to the top 4" is not really a big deal when there're only 3-4 decent teams going around. Nonsense Yuvraj, Bhajji, Sehwag were all part of odi set up for more than five years .Dhoni started in 2004. Gambhir, started playing in 2005.Irfan Pathan instantly became a core member after his debut in 2003 played a vital role in series wins in Pakistan in both formats in 2004. RP singh and Sreesanth already played vital roles in test wins in 2006 (Joburg) and test series in 2007 in England Kumble was in and out of odis since 2003 world cup. Dravid was part of odis only for one reason he became captain or he would have been gone. Only guys who left were Sachin and Ganguly. They did not go voluntarily. Ganguly did not have much left anyways. I have always believed you need couple of youngsters to play in every major tournament who don't have fear of failure.Rohit was that guy who play a vital role against SA in 2007. That is why I wanted Tilak to be part of the team in 2023 world cup. Regarding your Gabba claim and that 2020 series win. Pujara Rahane and Ashwin played equally important role in that series win along with Pant who was part of series win in 2018 also. You seem to have no understanding of history of cricket. Cricket is won by team.India in last decade had most unbalanced team. Malcolm Marshall never won any world cup, it does not mean he is not considered one of the greatest fast bowlers who has played this game.Viv Richards never won any world cup without Clive Lloyd. He was at his peak in 1980s but never led WI to title. WI still was the strongest team in 1980s but never won any world cup in 1980s. They were steam rolling over all teams in 1980s and early part of 1990s but never sniffed world cup. Ambrose and Walsh never won any world cup.Ambrose will go down one of the best odi bowlers. No one in their right mind would call 1983 world cup winning Indian team as a great team. 1983 WI team will go down as best team never to have won world cup.It would beat any world cup winning team past or present easily I have no love for anyone. Only moronic Idiots will have issue with Kohli in whiteball cricket, he is the reason why India has been relevant in T20 world cup. He carried the team to atleast semi even in 2022 when he was looking like an idiot for previous three years. Did he play a great knock in semi final answer is no but team keeps depending on single guy for whole tournament, he will have good or bad days. You keep harping on knockout failures, only failure I attribute to Kohli is 2019 semi finals. He was the best batsman, he should have taken the team over the line. You can knock him for that but he got umpire's call. Rest of knock matches , India was not winning 2015 world cup after conceeding 330 plus or 2017 CT. Travis Head you keep harping on is not fit to tie shoelaces of Kohli. Joginder Sharma has world t20 title and Bumrah does not , does it mean Joginder sharma is better bowler? Bumrah did not play Gabba test, Natrajan played does he become better bowler. Edited May 13, 2024 by putrevus

This is typical Indian mentality, not gonna change any time soon. All said and done, as I wrote elsewhere, our No.1 dud in all formats is Fatman. singhvivek141 Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 Refreshing to see the views from GG. Unlike other he actually mentioned contributions of no 5-6-7 position which is often lost in the limelight of 1-2-3. Another good point he mentioned was how avg don't matter in T20's, and SR should be given most value. This is such a common sense which unfortunately is uncommon in Indian Cricket. Gambhir is the best captain we never had. Unfortunately his career coincided with Dhoni else he would've made a stellar captain. When he captained India for some of the series as stand-in captain, and when he captained KKR, he showed his abilities as captain. Wish we had someone in the team with same clutchness and captaincy capability. express bowling and singhvivek141 2
