He says the decision was made after not being considered for England's upcoming white-ball series against Australia

"I'm 37 years old and didn't get picked for this month's Australia series," Moeen said in a Daily Mail interview. "I've played a lot of cricket for England. It's time for the next generation, which was also explained to me. It felt the time was right. I've done my part."

Following an international debut in 2014, Moeen played 68 Tests, 138 ODIs and 92 T20Is as an allrounder. He finishes with 6678 runs, eight centuries, 28 fifties and 366 wickets for England across all formats. His last international outing was England's semi-final loss to India at the T20 World Cup in Guyana.

"I'm very proud. When you first play for England, you don't know how many games you're going to play. So to play nearly 300…My first few years were all about Test cricket. Once Morgs [Eoin Morgan] took over the one-day stuff, that was more fun. But Test cricket was the proper cricket.

The most overrated cricketer of the past few decades.

In a bid to make themselves look more inclusive and "woke" , the English management kept on feeding him games even though he was garbage 90% of the time. Trademark bits and pieces cricketer whose only utility is to be a buffer T20 option for T20 teams ala Krunal pandya.

Only 5 Eng players have 3000 test runs and 200 test wickets  - Flintoff, Broad, Stokes, Botham, Moeen

That is a massive achievement. He filled so many roles for England. He is far better batsman than his stats suggest.

- Much better LOI cricket than Ravi Jadeja ever would be

- Overrated test AR who did well against India with the ball

Bullcrap. In ODIs he averaged 25 with bat and 48 with ball, both worse than Jaddu. Jaddu also has CT 13 heroics and WC 19 semis whereas Moeen contributed nothing in Eng's two ICC title wins. In T20s hes better but again has no defining performances.

People confuse his elegance with bat and classical action with ball as being great. He was more talented sure but underachieved massively.

Very good T20 cricketer, above average test cricketer and average ODI cricketer.

For all the talent and elegance with the bat, he would more often than not get out after scoring 20s and 30s. He was weak vs short ball too. With bowl, he did a decent job as per his capability.

That is the difference. I dont go by stats. I go by impact.

Moeen Ali avgs 25 compared to Jadeja's 35.

But if a team is defending 50 off 5 overs, then we all know who we would rather have batting. Heck, I would be shaking my boots if Jadeja is batting for my team with 25 to win off 5 overs let alone 50.

LOL no he is not better than Jadeja in any format

You can LOL or ROTFWL
Moeen ali is a far far dangerous batsman than Jadeja in OID and T20i. It is not even close.
Jadeja cant be trusted to win 20 runs of 5 overs let alone anything demanding. Playing couple of flukes, which resulted in losses anyway, when everything is done n dusted means nothing.  Moeen was one of the catalysts of Morgans New England Era. He doest have to wield an imaginary sword to compensate for the actual lack of attacking instinct in his batting unlike the biggest fraud AR to represent Indian LOI cricket
