Good to see a classical spinner who actually turns the ball. Other spinners weren't getting as much turn as he was.

He should also continue working on his batting. Bowlers should come with some batting ability, which he has, but may not be at Jadeja level yet in terms of batting.

yes. Need a larger sample. We have hyped many only to criticize him later.

That pitch was giving bit of help and he used it well . But when is bland , he will be tested. Batters can target him

The contest for the second spinner’s berth — in case India plays three fast bowlers — also tilted firmly in Suthar’s favour.

Given a longer spell in the morning session than Kuldeep Yadav, the left-arm spinner showcased the attributes that have impressed selectors. He generated drift, overspin and bounce, repeatedly luring batsmen forward before dismissing the well-set Rasantha with a teasingly flighted delivery that induced a miscued lofted drive.

This is why you give youngsters a chance while they are still relatively young.  And this is why it is disconcerting to see Brar on the bench. He is 26. He is great form. He has already shown he belongs. How much more are they going to make him wait? It's ridiculous.

So who should have been out of the team for Brar.

Krishna

On what basis, Krishna has better FC stats and is still only 30. I am not defending Krishna here. But if healthy Krishna has to make way for Brar who is yet to make his debut then Krishna's career should be over and he should not be in the squad itself.

It is a familiar syndrome in these parts. Any player who is not in the team, instantly acquires mythical world beating status and anyone actually playing who doesn't take a 5-fer in every game become a disgraceful waste of a space who should be instantly sacked for good.

There are some players who don't deserve backing which they are getting now but it is not the case with Brar/ Prasidh here.

Plus any player who doesn't score 100 at run a ball... For god's sake, this is test cricket. Have some patience

Good stop gap player :nice: not a lambi race ka ghoda. 100 test wickets, 1000 runs max upside cricketer followed by a couple of IPl chances followed by  selector/ team management role. Middling goood cricketer.

Wish they start putting out stats for revs. They used to have in England. This guy has very hig revs something Ashwin often talks about on his YT channel.

Spinners journey is a long journey. You either evolve or bowl the same with precision for years. Otherwise you won't survive much. Currently his action is highly classical. There was some weird stat they shared in the commentary. Since 2007 suthar arm release point to stumps or something. Couldn't quite catch it. His seam position is towards slip which is from the very old spin quartet era.  It is rare to find a spinner like him in this era. Most of the spinners are darters these days as they play multi format.

It's a bit of a strawman argument that we are asking for PK to be sacked for good. It's a bit more subtle than that. It is more about bringing Brar, not removing PK.

Brar has been bowling really well, including in the practice match, generates pace and seems more consistent than PK. So, if there was room for only one hit-the-deck specialist, pick Brar for his upside. If there is room for 3 seamers, well, PK can slot in too. It's not like anyone is asking for PK to be dropped no matter what.

Second, Brar does not have inferior FC stats to PK. They are a wash:

GB: avg 25.24, SR 41.3

PK: avg 24.25, SR 42.8

I also don't buy the idea that, if PK is dropped in this one match, he is gone forever. If true, that is a problem. What happened to good old competition to find your way back into the XI?

Prasidh is gota quota player, gota selected him in kkr as well, gota needs to go

gota then bought him to lsg and now he’s in team India, Gambhir ko nikalo

That would be chopping and changing for the sake of it. Brar has played just 6 ODIs so far, 3 of which were against Afghanistan. Prasidh is the guy in posession and he has been doing an adequate job often in Bumrah's absence. With fast bowlers injuries etc are common so there are always going to be opportunities for Brar but to just dump one of the bowlers who have built up some experience of bowling in tests with a complete newbie doesn't make a lot of sense. You could make the same kind of argument to dump KL Rahul and just put Suryavanchi his test debut based on his strong start in T20s
