Indian batsmen are not be able to statpad for long time

Multiple factors

1. More result oriented pitches at home since 2017. Batsmen tend to score more at home.

2. Stronger bowling means Indian team always takes good lead over opposition and team doesn't need big scores.

3. WTC encouraging more focus on results.

 

Take example of recent match at Chennai. If this was played in 2010 against similar opposition, Gill would got opportunity to score a big 100.

 

It seems Indian batsmen will continue to average 2-5 points lower than their ability.

That doesnt explain how the likes of ashwin, jadeja, pant etc still score easily when earlier lower order used to struggle. Maybe the top order is just not good enough?

Yes, Indian batsmen dont get to statpad much.

 

But they also dont get to face the consequences of their flop show.

 

All in all, they get to enjoy a fun ride.

A top order batsman should still be able to statpad. Jaiswal created a record by scoring 712 runs in a single series.  Gill could have done what Ashwin did and Kohli could have done what Jadeja did.  Top order is iffy these days.

Reminds me on sachin statpadding all those years. He wouldn’t have survived these days on pitches like these!

We are the only team which has never played a test against minnow Pak in last 18 yrs.  Massive stat padding opportunity lost there itself.  Secondly, bottom ranked team like Windies hv toured Ind only once in the last decade (2018 series was last).     Other top test teams like Aus & Eng hv hosted Windies more often.

Forget stats padding, I'll be over the moon if the batsmen simply start showing up. We have been winning thanks to our lower order and bowlers with likes of Pant, Jadeja, Ashwin, Axar, Sundar doing the heavy lifting and our bowlers dominating opponents. Batsmen have been freeloaders for the most part, and it's time they show up - at least in Aus and WTC final 

 

Our bowlers deserve much better.

Forget stat padding- Kohli and Vada pav need to start hitting more 50s consistently at least at home.. one century and then no runs for the next 10 innings dont justify the inclusion in the team just because youre a senior

Indian team is beginning to look a lot like a corporate office... everything revolves around the seniors/boss. You gotta go to the office before the boss comes in, do all the work, and leave after the boss does. While the boss/senior is more of a blocker than anything else.

 

If you want to keep one, keep Rohit as he's the captain and has sucked less. No point keeping so many of them around. Ideally, all of them should be kicked and Sarfaraz, Jurel, Sai Sudarshan, Axar etc. would be a huge upgrade.

This has both positives and negatives.

 

With the older lineup of Vijay, Pujara, Rahane, old Kohli we would have drawn the Bang 2nd test but won this one as they would have dragged the first innings to 150-160.

Too many seniors in the team who're well past their prime or were never good enough. When 3 of the top 5 are Rohit, Kohli and KL Rahul, you're unlikely to do much. Rohit can't bat for too long, Kohli is done for around 5 years in Tests now, and KL is KL - an eternal failure. Kick them out and there's a chance with likes of Jaiswal, Easwaran, Jurel, Sarfaraz, Pant in the lineup.

 

Will also help if we don't have too many tailenders and prefer bowlers who can bat a bit like Akash Deep or Harshit instead of likes of Siraj who isn't good enough in his main discipline like Bumrah.
