Shami has to be 100% fit. Otherwise no compromise. We don't want half fit bowler struggling after 5 or 6 overs. I would rather have a new talented bowler with different skill set preferably a tall bowler who can get natural bounce from the Australian pitches

No problem giving Rana a run but he is not an all rounder,i have more  faith in Akashdeep for his batting than Rana.

Harshit isn't an "allrounder", he is a bowler who is very handy with the bat. similar to Harbhajan.
Likes of Harshit, Akashdeep, Yudhvir, Gurnoor have hard hitting ability to smash sixes and fours.
IMO, Harshit is better with bat than Akashdeep.

Playing well against Ashwin-Jadeja will put us in a better position: Maxwell

New Delhi, Sep 27 : Ahead of the home Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) later this year, Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell believes that playing well against the Indian spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will be key for them.

The ace bowlers have emerged as one of the best spin-bowling pair in recent times. In the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai, Ashwin and Jadeja shared 13 scalps between them across two innings to guide India to a dominating 280-run win. For the five-Test series in Australia, the duo's performance will make a huge impact on India's chances of retaining the series for the third consecutive time Down Under.

"I think that over a long period, having played against guys like Ashwin and Jadeja, those two seem to have always been the ones we've faced consistently, and the battles we've had with them have often dictated the outcome of the game. So if we play well against those two, we'll generally find ourselves in a better position compared to when they've had a field day and run through us. Those two guys have been there for most of my career, being of a similar age," Maxwell said on Star Sports.

The Australian all-rounder further lauded India's premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah's periodic rise as the leading pacer in the world after first facing him in Mumbai Indians nets during IPL 2013.

"And probably more recently, Jasprit Bumrah. I was there in his first year of the IPL in 2013 at Mumbai and pretty much faced him every day in the nets. To see him evolve from a young, untapped talent to what he is now—the probably best bowler across all three formats—is a pretty amazing story," he added.

The upcoming five-match Test series will see India and Australia play in Perth, Adelaide (pink-ball match), Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney from November 22 to January 7, 2025.

India were able to retain the title in the last four successive BGT (home and away), which includes their famous series wins in 2018-19 and 2020-21.

this statement is just to fool us.

Check Ashwin's record against australia..it is probably the worst and even jaddu is played and ashwin benched in australia- so playing against ashwin wont determine their success. yes  if they play well against BOOM & Mayank Yadav, australia can win( assuming Shammi wont be fit for australia). SIRAJ and Akash will also help out with few wickets but i expect BOOM and Mayank to get most wickets.

though Siraj /AKASHDEEP/Khaleel/YASH/Arshdeep are good pacers but i consider BOOM ,Shammi and Mayank Yadav to be threats for Australia...if shammi and Mayank Yadav are playing tests against australia with BOOM - we can be SURE of a win.

I hope Mayank will do really well but Mayank has played one first class match so far. We have no idea if he will be fit and traveling to Aus and even if selected would most likely be an enforcing third/fourth seamer more likely to be used in short bursts.

That's not entirely true, Ashwin probably avg under 30 in last 2 tours & Jadeja under 25 as well. If they can keep their batters quiet that will go a long way in helping us win!

Rohit Sharma said he wants to have 8-9 fast-bowling options before travelling to Australia for the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting on November 22 in Perth. When India announced the squad for the three-Test New Zealand series, they named Harshit Rana, Mayank Yadav, Nitish Reddy and Prasidh Krishna in the travelling reserves.

Prasidh seems to have injured himself once again during the first round of the Ranji Trophy but the other three are with the main squad in Bengaluru, which will host the first India-New Zealand Test from October 16 (Wednesday). The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep are part of the main squad, while Mohammed Shami is still recovering from an injury. There’s Yash Dayal too who was picked for the Bangladesh series.

Don't think Shami will make it to BGT.

Even more the reason to hand Harshit his debut in this series.

Rohit said they are looking to take Reddy Harshit Mayank to Australia.

But at least one of them should make their test debut in India.

Issue is how ?
Harshit is in reserves, not in main squad.
Unless someone is niggled out from the main team, he can't play in the team.

I think we need to play 2 spinners in Australia and i am not even thinking of Jaddu and Ash.play the spin combo for the track.

The other alternative is to play 4 pacers, which will be an overkill of pace and one of them will end up being underused. This is where someone like a Shardul Thakur came handy last time.

They could possible consider Washington for his batting and offering some overs of off spin
