no more rank turners for home Tests

Only against Australia we've been playing on rank turners. Once the current set of Aussie batsmen retire we will go back playing them also on normal pitches.

I don't think so, as long as Ashwin and Jadeja are there, India is unbeatable in series in Asia and WI.

India lost a test against England twice of perfect pitches .2021 and last year.

I think we are going to phase out all rank turners after recent debacles at home.we can win on normal Indian pitches easily against any team.

We've lost 1 test on flat decks in the last 12+ years! Lost 3 on turners, of varying degrees, at the same time.

No, 4-5 turners against Eng in the 2021/24 series and 2(3?) vs SA back in 2015 as well. In fact, without turners, there's a fair chance we'd have lost the 2015 series, which really was the start of our home dominance, not 2013

And I've always been in favor of flat decks at home, which don't allow one test wonders to prosper, like SoK or Kuhnemann :whack3:

In fact Oz haven't beaten us on flat decks since 2004, why the * did we ever need to go that route against them

Since Jan 2013 our home record reads: total 53 tests, 42 wins, 4 losses, 7 draws (most of draws affected by external reasons like weather, pollution). 18 consecutive series wins at home, almost double of the next best (Aus 10).

To put in context, best period of Fab 5, Kumble, Harbhajan, Zaheer team had a record of 25-10 in their 54 tests at home (2000s), 18 draws !!!!

No need to stress about test cricket at home, we have been in autopilot for over a decade.

2013 BGT was the start.

First time we had whitewashed a team at home (for series with 3+ tests). In fact even in 3 test series our last whitewash was 1993 vs Eng. Zimbabwe and NZ used to give us scares at home before that.

Jadeja becoming a permanent fixture, sideline of oldies including Sehwag/Gambhir. Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Vijay, Dhawan etc. becoming permanent fixtures.

No, RSA 2015 was never challenging us on true pitches either as the Delhi test showed (Rahane scored two 100s there). Or even Bengaluru flattie where rain played spoilsport. Their goose was cooked when Steyn got ruled out early on. Amla was past his best days, du Plessis was a joke, only ABDV was prime version.

Another thing is Australian spinners are used to kookaburra red ball. Seam is less pronounced. You have to give real tweak. When they get hold of SG ball which has more pronounced seam  they will get more purchase. On a turning track they can be dangerous due to the style they have developed. You don't need to best batsmen with guile by hanging in the air. They can get more out by bowling in to the pitchon a square turners  like Todd Murphy did.

Jadeja was the turning point I'd say. Earlier Ojha and Harbhajan didnt provide good support to Ashwin. Still remember Jaddu getting Clarke 5 times in that series. Contrary to opinion at that time, the pitches suited him perfectly.

Infact I believe we'd have won 2012 v Eng too had Jadeja been included in time. Could have done what Monty ended up doing to us.

Nobody expected Jadeja to turn out the way he did. He was seen as a joke/villain till 2013 BGT and CT corrected that image.

Ojha was good but a chucker at the end of the day. Glad Jadeja pushed him out.

no he was poor too. Play exclusively in Asia still averaged 30. Was too inconsistent and lacked variety of pace.

I did tbh, See the old threads, I was backing him to use the rough due to his accuracy but he turned out good on flatter tracks too.

He is the McGrath/Pollock of spin bowling.

Unreal accuracy plus precision. With subtle change of pace, angle, spin.

The Chennai pitch against BD was a very sporting pitch. Moisture on day 1, flat on day 2-3, turning on day 4-5

It wasn't flat on any day.

I did because of his accuracy and quick pace. I always knew seeing Pragyan Ojha bowl who was slow and loopy that on Indian jadeja could be much more handful.  When ball turns, accuracy and pace is the most important thing which Ojha lacked and Jadeja had. With Ojha, batsmen could easily come down the track to negate turn, which wasn't the case against Jadeja. Things could have been different had Jadeja played all four tests in that series against England.
