I m pretty sure kohli has stayed more than 181 days abroad and is not a resident anymore further he has gone with intention to not return so is automatically a NRI

 

Is he eligible to play for team india now?

 

Isn't it a dangerous precedent where players become leech and suck india for money and live abroad and Indian are not able to identify with their heroes

He must be having 10s of residents in India as well. As long as you are formally a citizen of India, NRI is just a vague description.

I don't blame Kohli for moving out, we Indians do not believe in privacy, trespassing into someones private space (especially celebrities) is a common notion in the country. Imagine him, his wife and daughter being hounded by people everywhere they go to, can't walk freely on the streets, can't go out for a walk to have some me time and gain some perspective, can't go to a restaurant and eat peacefully, without being heckled for a selfie or an autograph.

 

India needs a big cultural shift especially in hero worshiping and giving someone a God like status. I give Gen Zs full marks for this, they atleast on this front are doing better than the previous generations and have not seen them barging into people's pvt life, and believe in giving individual spaces to everyone.

Yeah because celebrtieis dont get mobbed in England at all. They literally killed Diana by hounding her, look at how footballers etc are treated in England.

Kohli is a nobody in England, don't compare a cricketer in England vs a Football player in England. It's like a rugby player walking on the streets of Mumbai.

I am saying every country has it. Your post was not talking about kohli not being famous in UK, it was blasting India. Celebrity worship is ingrained in every culture, human beings are very social animals and this is one of the side effects of that.

Don't care about the culture and what Kohli or any other person wants to do. But I do expect anyone representing an Indian team to show up for the team. Not "show up"  in literal sense what Kohli is doing by flying in a couple of days before a match and laying an egg without any practice matches.

 

We expect commitment and some level of passion. We expect the players to feel pride while playing for the team and not treat it as a 9-5 job which Kohli is doing. You don't like staying in  India, fine go ahead but retire as well.
