You hv missed out the 5 match test series at home against Eng in which he had just one century and one fifty in the entire series. Overall avg in that series: 34 Correction, he averaged 44 with 2 100’s vs England, you can double check the stats, anything above 40 is ok I guess in Test Cricket. Link to comment

Yes. His avg in that home series was Ok. It's 44. But an avg of 44 as an opener in a home series is mediocre. (Not a failure though). Most of those tests vs Eng were played on flat pitches. Currently that’s the only role I see him in . He has done that against England in past. His defence is not tight enough to do that against either accurate seam or spin. His career can survive for a bit on 50 over games where there are limited close catchers and flat pitches and you can take your time settling into an innings. He is a walking wicket in tests. rkt.india
Kohli will end up as a Babar category batsman if he doesn't retire soon. Already lost 6 points in his average from his peak of 54. New guy, Frustrated and Master_better 3 Link to comment

What Pujara could do was leave the deliveries outside off stump whole day. What Kohli can do is edge the deliveries outside off stump whole day. He will leave a few then lunge and edge eventually. Until and unless they get a massive thrashing to Australia, both Rohit and Kohli will continue to play till the next summer. Only if we lose 4-0 or 5-0, then BCCI will find it extremely difficult to justify their selection . Otherwise paid media and boot licking ex cricketers will gloss over even if we lose 2-0 or 3-1. Same way Sachin played a random WI series to be his last at home even though he could have retired in 2011 after WC but no he made us endure the 8-0 thrashings under Dhoni and the Eng seres loss at home Ultimate_Game 1 Link to comment

For personal stats? Sachin averaged 47 in 2011 in tests and a year before averaged 78. Rohit and kohli were just into international and we had just our other seniors retire. It was a planned transition period. Both kohli and rohit swear playing other side of him is what made them easy into international and they learned a lot which they never learned before. Meanwhile Lara and Sanga retired for their peak personal stats and both their teams batting collapsed and have still not completely recovered. Link to comment
