INdia's problem will be there is nobody to play the waiting game. Every one has the tendency to feel the ball constantly. So i expect more collapses. India needs a boring defender at 3 or 4.

Jurel can do it at best. Has shown technique like Pujara and good temperament

KL

Jaiswal

Devdutt

Kohli

Pant

Jurel

Another batsman

Ashwin

Akashdeep

Harshit/ Prasidh/ Siraj

Bumrah

No need to Play 5 specialist bowler as pitch will be bowler friendly .

Nitish Reddy is not suitable for test cricket so no use of him .

Reading News today, i understand Nitish reddy and Harshit Rana are kind of certain to debut on a 10 mm Green Opus wicket.

Many former players are not convinced that Nitish is good enough to represent an Indian 11 and he is neither as good as Shardul in bowling nor as good as Hardik in Batting and probably Shardul could have been a better bet. Even I share the same feeling that Shardul is a better bowler than Nitish and Nitish is a better batsman than Shardul. so let's see how he performs.

I have to APPRECIATE the Guts and the decision-making capability of GG who is actually declaring a WAR against the AUSTRALIAN 11. Probably our pace attack could be SIRAJ, BOOM, HARSHIT, NITISH, and maybe Ashwin. Harshit marked in specifically to hurt the Aussie batsman ( as else on wicket-taking ability Akash Deep or Prasidh may be a better option). I am not saying that Harshit is a lesser bowler than Prasidh or Akashdeep but giving Harshit debut on dangerous Perth. he could get excited seeing the green pitch and kinda do what Umesh Yadav used to do ( spray around). Harshit is no MAYANK Yadav (Mayank is 150 k at a line n length which is high rising n ideal for Australian pitch).

So, any other coach would not have played Harshit and Nitish in the 11, at least in the first test match. Now, if these 2 guys debut and perform well, credit should go to GG.

I will be very delighted if Harshit hits an Aussie batsman and creates some panic. I strongly believe that as soon as a bowler hits the batsman, it is just a matter of time, and very soon, the batsman will gift his wicket away to the same bowler or attack other bowlers more and gift his wicket away.

I hope GG plays them and his decision is correct. let us see.

i am sure boom , harshit and siraj will create lots of issues for Australian batsman. Aussie batsmen should be ready to take body blows like Pujara took in the last series. Harshit is a well known FIGHTER and he will create PAIN for Aussie batsman for sure.

Ashwin vs Jadeja vs Sundar. Each has a reason to play ahead of other. But sundar covers a bit of what Ashwin offers ,bit of what Jadeja offers. An off spinner Check. Improved one. A decent batsman and leftie check.  It will be a massive call to leave both Ash and Jaddu. Unheard of in the last 10 years or so.

My 11 for the match but I know this won't happen

Jaiswal - India second best batter in test

Washington - can save his wicket for long time unlike Kela and virat

Jurel - need a solid batter at three

padikkal - done well in a matches

kohli -

Pant - India best batter in test

Jadeja - Better than Ashwin in sena

Nithish reddy - Need capable Batter  who can bowl a bit

Harshit Rana - got pace can bat to

Akash Deep - we don't have any other good bowler

Bumrah - national treasure

It's not just about Siraj's form, it's the effort which seems to be missing and no wonder even his pace is greatly down.

if you're right about that, I'm sure Boom, the coach, bowling coach etc can see it too.  Prasidh Krishna demonstrated his effectiveness in the 2 'A' games, he's tall, quick enough, and young. Akash is not that quick, but solidly reliable in terms of accuracy and doing the hard yards for spell after spell.  I believe in Boom, and his judgement. I think he'll go with Siraj, but am completely comfortable in whatever bowling lineup that Boom chooses to go with for T1.

In Boom I trust!

DDP batted well iin tough batting conditions in both the innings of the first Unofficial test for India A.

He may not be a bad choice here.

I will admit to being biased for Washi, but I thought he would be a good shout to get in the top order once Gill was out injured.

I see the logic for DDP though, worth the punt I guess.

with Gill out, we could have played 2 out of these 3 - I believe in Washi as someone who can bat in the top 6.

Washi + Jadeja I think is a better pick than one of these plus a Nitish.

Manju wants Sundar over Ashwin.  I can't see GG being bold enough to drop senior players so when it comes to merit only younger players can replace younger ones.

I like the XI of @Sgattick10 it's a near perfect one for conditions of Perth.

But GG will push for Ashwin and Siraj's inclusion we know that.

Harshit v Prasidh is a coin flip at this point.

Logic says Harshit must play in Perth but can't be sure with this TM

Sundar > Ashwin. AShwin is too old now and opposition spinners have outperformed him in home series.

When will they actually announce the playing 11 ?? (or 12, i should say)

One day before the game?

Shouldn't announce till the toss. One advantage we hold for first test is Aussies don't know the exact XI, why give it up

Based on what Cricinfo wrote I think the team would look like this

Jaiswal

KLR

Padikkal

Kohli

Pant

Jurel

Reddy

Ashwin

Rana

Bumrah

Siraj

This is not the team I would select. I would go with this team

Jaiswal

KLR

Jurel

Kohli

Pant

Jadeja

Washington

Rana

Bumrah

Akashdeep

Siraj/Prasidh

I don't have much hope from Padikkal specially on this pitch.Jadeja is a very improved batsman and can do what Padikkal does and is experienced..plus provides fielding and bowling options.

Washington over Ashwin is contentious but spinners take time to adjust in Aus conditions..and Ashwin is more experienced but probably lacks in form. Only on this pitch Washington wins due to his batting and maybe spinners will not be that important. He covers for Nitish absence on batting form

The four pacers is much better than having Reddy play as a fourth seamer.

On other pitches with Gill and Rohit back

Jaiswal

Rohit

Gill

Kohli

Pant

KLR/Jurel

Reddy

Ashwin

Bumrah

2 of the inform pacers or Shami or rotate

I don't have much hope fromRohit if he plays like Afridi but he is not going to be dropped
