Announcement will be that Rohit will be test captain till 2027 WTC Final and will be ably helped by experienced Kohli in this endeavour to win WTC 2027.  :phehe:

I don't think Rohit will continue this cycle will be his end.

Mahendra Bahubali is setting up a dangerous predecent.

Firstly, used his connections to clip the wings of selectors even after shameful performances in Tests.

Secondly, used his brand value to continue milking the revenue till 2020 (thanks to Covid), when he as a batter was finished in 2015 itself.

Thirdly, playing IPL even at an age of 43/44...which puts pressure on everyone in that franchise.

Kohli & Rohit are beneficiary of 2/3...third is also on the way.

Most mismanaged player of all time. In his prime he was not given opening opportunities.

He should have been groomed as a spinner- batsman in red ball  like Washington/ Ashwin/Jadeja. Underrated offspin talent

however he has himself to blame for letting go of his fitness. Earlier he was bulky but more like a defensive line man or wrestler but now is plain tubby.

need to drop him. I would be upset if he plays in Sydney as that would lower my respect for him.

Didn't he have major shoulder issues that pretty much ruled out bowling for long periods. Moreover, it is not easy to graduate from part-timer to AR with ball (the other way, with bat, is easier). SRT was much more talented & versatile than any 90s Ind bowler, but it's good he never became an AR - would have surely impacted his batting because of the extra time spent on learning to bowl (see Irfan's case).

eh? all those bowl regularly from start of their careers.Rohit after injury stopped bowling even in white ball.

Opening in Tests is different from ODIs. I don't think he opened even in FC. Still got the opportunity pretty much after Vijay left.

67 Tests is not a small career.

As you said biggest disappointment is fitness. Also never deserved Test captaincy.

Rohit was an irrelevant POS in Tests till 2019.  Ashwin had been winning matches since 2011. He never got to captain. But this Rohit vadapav makes the call on whether Ashwin should play or not.

I was so hoping for Ashwin to be Test captain after Kohli stepped down.. unfulfilled dream

It's because he was deemed "not good enough" to play overseas in every test, which is quite debatable; whereas Rohit and our batters were

When it comes to retirement, the great Vijay Merchant - about whom I have written more in the thread on Kohli and top 5 Ind test batters - shared his thoughts on the subject, which remain as valid today as it was back then:
