3 all rounders strategy in BGT 2024

There were lot of issues and I think this was one of them.

 

What was Sundar's role in the team?

 

If they were looking for a batsman, then they should have given chance to a specialist batsman like Sarfaraz or Eswaran who could bat in top 5. Whether they are good enough or not is different story, but they were in squad and should have been given opportunity. If Sundar was in the team as batsman then it's pointless to keep him at #8. If they didn't want Sarfaraz or Eswaran in playing XI, then at least Sundar should have batted in top 5 or 6.

 

If Sundar was playing as an AR, then he shouldn't have been 5th bowler bowling after 2 sessions.

 

2 spinners at Sydney.

 

Even Reddy was played as AR, but Sharma was reluctant to use him as bowler.

All 3 batted better than specialist batsman atleast once each.

 

Agree Sundar should have batted higher but thats what happens when you try to accommodate non performers like RoKo and Gill

Sundar could have been tried at 5 for his ability to build partnerships and lhb advantage. He is wasted at 8. Reddy also could have been promoted in an innings or two. Jaddu is a defensive selection with theoretical benefit.

Allrounders were selected to cover the weakness of our batting.

 

There were Eashwaran, Sarfaraz, Paddikal, Jurel in the squad but they didnt gave opportunities to them fearing if they score runs ,their place in the squad would be questioned. 

 

Jadeja,Sundar,Reddy can be dropped in next match.

 

There was failure in batting ,but they changed Allrounders and bowler s in every match

Inspite of the batting failure, they never promoted inform Reddy ,Sundar in middle order.

Trash strategy. Weakened both batting and bowling.  Bits and pieces

On these pitches batting depth was necessary and helped us stay alive in series.Problem was toporder and middle order were so poor .If jaiswal had caught well we  might have been celebrating at mcg.

Point taken however anytime one gives these excuses it takes away from the actual problem.

I am not questioning Sundar's selection alone.

 

I am question combination of Sundar's selection + using him as batsman + using him as batsman at 8.

Your questions are valid.
It shows that TM were clueless and had no idea/risk appetite to shuffle the batting order despite presence of NPA's.
Washy is not a no 8, he is equivalent to jadeja in these conditions with the bat. Could have easily came above Pant to do the holding job rather.

Problem is indian players management and even fans are dumb they don't undeytest cricket or strategy or planning

 

Who plays 2 spinners on a green pitch 

 

Sundar is not an all rounder 

 

He is a strokeless tailender like gillespie

 Jadeja too in sena can't be relied and they played both

 

How they didn't give matches to sarfaraj and jurel is beyond me

Jaiswal dropping 3 catches led Australia to 300 when India was set to chase 200 odd. Imagine rohit Sharma being dropped in 2023 ODI World Cup final or Rishab pant given a life line in Sydney Test match. It's surely Jaiswal who messed up MCG test match ( which is why Rohit lost it) . The outcome of 2007 t20 World Cup final would have been different if srisant had not held onto Misbah's catch. Do not downplay crucial game changing mistakes/incidents as excuses.

its easy. They had to accomodate RoKo and Gill. Everything else was secondary

2011 ODI World Cup sachin was dropped 4 times, PAK lost it. 8/10 times if a team drops catches, they will end up on wrong side. what you cited is an outlier.
