BCCI cracks whip regarding players not playing Ranji Trophy; Rohit and Virat's absence from domestic cricket discussed

I think players will start pulling a Dwayne Bravo - refuse to play tests and focus on IPL.

Then BCCI will say "can't do that".... then someone will pull BCCI to court.... then court will say "can do that".

IPL is where the moolah is - the rest is a sideshow where you earn injuries.

All IMHO.

Simple. Just drop them from internationals. That will force them to retire

Can't do that as Pandya has proven....

Pandya is sort of a necessary evil for BCCI even from team balance perspective. These 2 are excess baggages. They know it for  along time. Now they have reached a breaking point

Dropping players from Internationals and central contracts effects their IPL brand value- that's why all the IPL lobbies push their players to be part of the national set up so they can utilise it for making more money using their names. Dhoni is the only exception who can be selected as a uncapped player of all things nearly 20 years after he delivered the first WC win for india in decades.

BCCI need to make public what their true intention and priority is- if it is only IPL then admit it and say we don't care about international cricket now and so the players can come out in the open and admit it too. Now it seems that the priority of everyone in the cricketing circles is to get an IPL contract and playing for India is a added burden. Ask any kid now, if they had a choice of becoming an IPL superstar or just play for India, 99% of the time they would chose the former

No, they don't need to do that. Why do you think politicians keep dangling the Pak carrot for as long as they have :om:

BTW what happened to the bcci big talk that if infia loose in aus it would be curtain to lully and fatty, why bcci is asking them to play domestic if you have to drop them.

Its all a loony show to project to the media that they are tough with players when they have little to no power in taming shwarma and lolly

That is reality and that is how it should be.

People forget that sportsmen are there first and foremost to make moolah. Hence the pro part of pro sports.

Just like how every football players dream is to play for real Madrid or manU. Cricket, as in ICC/BCCI etc need to realize that the future of cricket IS the football model: club cricket dominating the scene and international cricket being marquee prestige events that even most stars skip out on except for the latter most stages or select few tourneys.

Just like Messi doesn't show up to play for a random Argentina vs Nigeria friendly, don't expect bumrah to show up for a random India vs Bangladesh odi.

Cricket is struggling because ICC wants it all - they want all 3 formats for dull season and pretend cricket is a 2 hr per day 3 times a week game like football and pack in 11 month seasons where in a given month a player can theoretically play 15 whole days if selected for every single match.

Like wot de foc.

Icc needs to be decisive and either go for a longer IPL season with clear break and compressed international season so there is clear format predictability for players and team management or they need to do away with ODIs and make it just a test plus t20 format or grow balls and drop the financial black hole but fun to play and prestige format of tests.

All 3 format plus individual teams taking a month or two off of the season to do domestic t20 is just not sustainable.

It leads to overplaying and player fatigue from overplaying.

When this happens, you end up with the 80s problem of ' marquee players taking it easy in the hugely long FC season and only playing to full effect in test cricket' bleeding into the international arena itself and marquee players taking entire series off due to mental fatigue.

Everyone important already knows/understands this.

That's not really in their hands, is it?

Doesnt BCCI indirectly influence ICC? without India ICC will collapse.

My point is that international cricket played seriously only by 10 countries and out of which only 3/4 actually play to a good standard which means international scene is dead and its like flogging a dead horse but is still going because ICC makes money with TV rights only because of India. I would also prefer International cricket limited to ICC t20 wc every 4 years and ODI WC every 4 years and the rest with T20 franchise cricket. BCCI needs to move away from IPL matches every day to weekend games over the course of 6-7 months with other leagues running at the same time, so players can chose which league they want to go for.

And even out of these 3-4 good teams we couldn't win ICC trophies.

Forget football which is the ultimate standard, even sports like rugby and field hockey have 7-8 genuine trophy contenders all the time and have a more global presence. Cricket has such a weak field man, even in 90s/00s we never had more than 4 top teams. Sorry picture before that when RSA, Lanka, even India/NZ were either non-existent or too weak.

Crying shame that we consider making KOs of ICC events a success.

Yup. And Kohli fanboys have the gall to say that it was Kohli who kept us "relevant" over the last decade :hysterical:

So beating up on likes of WI, SL, B'desh etc., making it to knockouts and then losing to the first half-decent team we came up against in knockouts is what the "King" was supposed to do :giggle:

Haven't heard any update on Kohli playing in the Ranji trophy. Should be dropped if BCCI actually takes it's own opinion seriously.

No confirmation frm rohit too. he jst joined mbi team for practice session. looks like they are just wanting for the storm to pass. what if they do not do well in ranji too

there were news that kolhi will play in eng. county season which falls in same window as ipl, this can be his pr who just pushed something to divert the actual issue.

media discourse is already shifted to non-cricketing thing, leaks, who did what, new rules... how much luggage can they carry ......

these are irrelevant news , tell them to the player to the logistic manager and team manager and ask them to enforce it strictly.

Asian cricketers are so entitled!

I respect Smith and Labuschagne so much. They were struggling and were out of form. But they gritted it out. They simply did everything possible and made a difference. Smith scored 2 100s and Labuschagne scored important runs and ate up balls. Whereas our entitled stars couldn't do anything, and it shows why when you look at the stats above.

Likes of Root, Smith, Williamson, Labuschagne do everything possible to improve their game. Smith even tried opening for his team! You can call them multiple things but they don't disrespect the game and are always looking to better themselves and help make the team better. Wish our so called stars did something similar.
