The same thing was done by kohli in 2022 before his come back out of poor slump. Kohli takes enough "breaks" and it has had no impact on his performance and has likely made it worse because he does not get enough practice against the red ball. Ponting should know the phenomenon. His own performance fell off a cliff after he turned 35 which is a year younger than Kohli is now and Ponting was also quite physically fit. Pontng only scored just 3 centuries after 34. Kohli has just come to the end of his useful life as a top order test batsman even though he may resist the inevitable. he could probably do some role in the ODI format in places like Dubai but even that is a declining format and there are enough youngsters he is keeping out by not yielding voluntarily. These are the same guys who ask for Karun Nairs inclusion based on scoring 700 runs in a domestic fc tournament, and now they are criticising Kohli after scoring 765 in a ODI World cup, half crack ho kya? This is clearly a thread about ranji and test selection my dude. Come on. No one is questioning his ODI place.

Gollum Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 (edited) Kohli used to be a guy who took so much pride in his performance, that was the main reason he succeeded in his prime years despite not being the most talented. Damn hard worker who maximized his potential. Whole world (forget bikau PR and braindead bhakts) is mocking him now, his ass should be on fire wanting to get as much match practice as possible under his belt. Sachin turned up against Cambridge University team to get over his bad phase, Smith is mingling with commoners in Shield....onus shouldn't be on BCCI/selectors to ask him to play domestic, urge/desperation should come from within. Too much spirituality may have dulled his animal instincts.....his OTT antics while fielding are just for show. Edited January 19, 2025 by Gollum
Gollum Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 In a parallel universe, Kohli followed his successful 2023-24 RSA tour by playing 4 tests against England at home (after missing one for childbirth) and amassing 450 runs, thus getting back his mojo and passion for the game. That was the decisive turning point of his career, played so well on those treacherous RSA tracks and immediately took a long break. Who misses an iconic 5 test home series

Didn't do anything in Home BGT 2023 as well.. Sure, hindsight bro. Thing is that decision was inexplicable. Imagine Federer coming back to win 2017 AO (almost 5 years drought) when he was written off and then taking a long break. Instead he went and played the entire American HC swing, and those wins in Indian Wells and Miami (especially against Nadal) set the stage for his best season since 2009, and a glorious endgame of his career. Zero_Unit Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 If IPL was scheduled during that time, bro would have played the whole tournament with a neck brace. Neck pain, what pain? Ultimate_Game 1

lemsip Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 Apparently he has now deigned to play Ranji per the latest media mahaul.
LordPrabhzy Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 sohe will play this one match and 2 days ater he will play the ODIs and then CT and then IPL.. so is this is the great GOAT Kohlis preparation for Test tour to england is to play one Ranji match against Railways... they are doing it for keeping up appearances. Even if Kohlii gets two ducks in this match he will still be picked for England tour so this domestic push by BCCI is meaningless if it doesnt apply to senior players Ultimate_Game 1
bowl_out Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 (edited) He had to turn around to first slip and watch his catch taken 9 times in the BGT.. so the neck sprain is understandable Edited January 21, 2025 by bowl_out Ultimate_Game and rollingstoned 2

Whether Kohli plays or doesn't play Ranji, whether he fails in Ranji and whether he fails in CT, it has no bearing on his selection for future series and tourneys. He will still be picked for Eng series and fail there as well. And he'll make it to the following series and also WC in 2027. We're fortunate that the oldies decided to not play T20s else they would be there for the next WT20 as well. Selectors don't have the balls and BCCI doesn't care. If BCCI really cared, both Kohli and Rohit wouldn't have been on the flight to Aus and wouldn't be in the CT squad after the humiliating loss against NZ at home. Texan Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 PR team realized how much negative press was generated by neck sprain excuse and now to show how committed he is, they decided that it is best for him to show up for a match to shut people down. To play or not and to help improve one's game should come from within. It should not come because BCCI is asking for it, the public is asking for it or not playing is causing negative publicity. Kohli is no longer concerned about his own skills or form. He has realized that he doesn't need to do much to be in the team. His only concern is building his own brand and whether to play or not is completely dependent on how it affects his brand value. Number and Ultimate_Game 2

THe problem is that this feeling from within to improve tour red ball game will come if you actually have pride and care about India's test team and results and genuinely want to be better and help your country win matches- if Virat was truly passionate about red ball now he would say see look ill only play half season of IPL for RCB and then im going to Eng in late April May to play red ball in county and I and BCCI will reimburse RCB accordingly but obv for him his contractual commitments and brand commitments are more important for IPL so why would he ever take this step. Why are we singling him out, when ODI and Test selections are based on IPL performance why the hell would any young cricketer prioritise Ranji and overseas red ball domestics when all they want to focus is IPL contracts for PR and brand value exposures. BCCI is the cause of this rotten behaviour being encouraged and not clamping it down Ultimate_Game, rollingstoned and Texan 3
Nikhil_cric Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 Won't make any difference if he plays 0 FC games or a 100. His technique is not good enough and he needs to work with a batting coach.. But whether his ego will allow him to do so or if he has the will and desire to improve at this age - I seriously doubt it.
