We need to do the same now. Ganguly was gone long back in 2008. Sachin was there, when Sachin can play in 2011. Why are Kohli/Rohit a burden on the team.He and Rohit carried this team in last world cup to finals undefeated. They are stopping youngsters because of position they bat. Point of lower order not picking up their slack is moot as they bat at easiest spots. Rohit was a massive failure in middle order too. We need youngsters to get experience at those top spots else will be caught unprepared in WC Vk1, Ultimate_Game and express bowling 3

Number Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 Kumble has first hand experience of what happens to the coach in India when he makes superstars sulk.

Kohli has been an MO batter all his life...Jaiswal hasn't. It's easier for a batter to adjust one position. If Kohli can bat at no 4, Jaiswal can slot himself at no 3. Push Kohli to no 5/6 and he too will struggle. No 4/5/6 requires players to have gap finding ability and then to hit bit shots at the end. You don't expect them to make hundreds. Top 3's responsibility is to provide the impetus and set the tone for MO batters .

It is their bad luck they never had any decent youngster. Youngsters don't have to do anything specatcular, they have play some kind of role, Inzi played one innings in 1992, Symonds did in 2003.Kohli did in 2011 final picking up the slack and playing small but important role. They again brought TTF failures like KL Rahul to support them. Youngsters can only do that if they get a proper chance. For majority of career of Ro-Ko, Indian batting has been revolving around Rohit-Dhawan-Kohli with supporting roles from Jadhav & Dhoni...that's 5 of 6 batters. Last position was being rotated between Rayudu, Pandey, VJ, DK...please tell me who was the youngster ? Iyer only played 5 games till 2019 ODI WC. Its only when we moved away from Dhawan, Jadhav & Dhoni...we started trying out KL, Iyer, Gill, Kishan, Pant & others...Iyer did a good job in his first WC of 2023. BCCI has to be blamed for not developing youngsters. But even now when we have a generational talent like YBJ in picture...he is sitting at home. Vk1 1
Vk1 Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 ODI cricket squads should be selected on the basis of world cup to world cup.. no point in carrying players who are not certain for next world cup. How much ever me might admire Sachin but it was not great to see him play post 2011. Lord 1

I never said Jaiswal cannot bat at number 3 and Kohli number 4, my point was Kohli and Rohit stopping Jaiswal from getting selected to this squad.I also wanted either Jaiswal or Tilak to be selected in 2023 over guy like Prassid. We saw what wonderful batting we got from 4/5/6 in 2023 finals. These two have been carrying this sorry ass team for more than decade plus where their failure at any stage means team is done. When your batting order ends at number 3 then it is hard to blame these two for every failure. Rohit or Kohli have been their own finishers. When bowlers leak 330 also plus it is fault of these two where your ace bowler cannot do anything, when your spinner bowls noball again it has been their fault . Edited February 21, 2025 by putrevus
vvvslaxman Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 (edited) This episode is awesome. Great take down of kohli by Pdogg. Psdogg is uber pissed that Arshdeep is not backed. Edited February 21, 2025 by vvvslaxman

It also doesnt help when these two cant chase even 240 vs NZ in semifinals..or just choke at 150 on Dubai patta in T20's. They even surrended in 2015 WC vs Australia whereas game after game bowlers were carrying them. 2023 SF's as well we were literally saved by a rampaging knock of no 4, else NZ would have chased that down and kicked us out. So what are others doing , they failed it does not mean match should be over.Others are laying eggs. if they fail , this sorry ass team has no one to lift their slack for. Our ace bowler is allowed to pick more wickets in perfect bowling conditions in 2019 too.NZ bowlers showed how to use new ball next day. We all saw the ramaging knock Number 4 played in finals. When platform is set even dodo like KL Rahul can score runs like he did in semifinals. Plus our so called ace bowler cannot take more than one wicket and kept hyper ventitatiiling defending 397 and thankfully he had Shami was there to pick up the slack. If you expect them to score 330 plus in 2015 then you must are living in lala land. We will revisit that failure when any team chases 330 in a world cup knockout match. Even Great Viv Richards had Collis King in 1979 before his final onslaught. It does not mean Collis King was the reason for WI winning the finals. These two have delivered more than they have failed in odis.In t20 Kohli was lone warrior till 2024. In that Dubai match he still was standing and gave something to defend. Our genius ace failed to even make a dent by picking one lousy wicket.
cricspirit Posted February 21, 2025 Posted February 21, 2025 Just let go of Rohit after this tournament.. What will he achieve by hanging on and what will Indian team gain. Nothing. Virat does not want to leave it seems and is fitter and younger. Hard to kick him out with large support base. But how much do we have to tolerate to accommodate him for 2 more years. World cup is too far. Jaiswal should play without delay. No question in that. Drop whoever to get him in.
First class Posted February 22, 2025 Posted February 22, 2025 Luckily there are many former test players in India who speak out their mind and not afraid of expressing their opinion in the best interest of team India . In Pakistan all ex-cricketers are either on PCB's pay role or waiting for their turn to have a seat in the revolving chair of teams of selectors or other PCB jobs. Wasim , Waqar, Amir Sohail, Misbah, Afridi all come in that category, no one can talk or criticize the worst ever PCB Pakistan ever had. Only exceptions , to some extend are Ahmed Shehzad and Tanveer Ahmed, ex-test cricketers. .

Our genius ace failed to even make a dent by picking one lousy wicket. Shami & Bumrah as a bowling pair have carried us well in the tournaments. Its the foolishness of captains & coaches that they were too fond of Bhuvi who kept on replacing Shami before every crucial match. Fact of the matter is batters are unable to back them even if they fail for a day. I dont recall any game where our bowlers flopped and batters simply turned the game on head. Scoring a mediocre total of 240 something vs Australia can never be forgiven, no matter how much someone can justify. 2024 T20 WC itself, knock of Kohli would have gone in vain if not for the spell from Bumrah. Not to mention, Kohli was literally carried throughout the tournament, so bowlers did their job pretty well. Bumrah infact turned the game vs Pakistan as well despite us scoring a sub par total. When talking about 2015 WC, even if we can't chase 337, atleast we should have taken a fight and scored around 300 (England did to us in 2011 WC when we scored 317 something). So that's not a Lala land thought. Dhawan scored 45 (41) chasing that total while Ro-Ko were batting like lambs waiting to be slaughtered. Even NZ fought hard against us in a knockout matches despite us scoring 380 something and at one time were giving us scare. What stopped us doing the same against Australia, on Auzzie pitches which are usually very good for batting in white ball cricket.

NZ gave a decent chase due to Bumrah being a noshow along with Siraj in Semifinals. They bowled out SL on the same ground for 50 odd defending a smaller total. Some genuises here were saying they should scored 450. Handling pressure still is alien concept for many Indian bowlers. Sachin got out for 4 in 2003 finals, it happens when you chase a big total. Same thing happened in 2015. Lot of things have to go right and bowlers have to be like Indian bowlers in that semifinal against NZ. They did the same against WI too in 2016 semifinals. Edited February 22, 2025 by putrevus
