The one which shown in the above video is absolute mockery. It means that any player can stand outside boundary while ball is about to be hit by batsmen , all he has to do is jump in the air outside boundary and throw the ball inside and catch it, absolute nonsense is this.

Bro, fielder has to be inside the playing area at time of ball release by bowler. And his first contact with the ball should also be inside the boundary.

Sometimes momentum and/or loss of balance post first contact can take a catcher beyond the line, that is what this new rule is targeting.

yes. Switch hit is justified by saying it takes skills.

Then this takes skills too.

Bowler should also not be required to inform umpire/batsman whether he/she will bowl over or around the wicket. Keep the batsman guessing.

You are forgetting one thing, it takes just one delivery to get batsman out.So rules should always favor batsman and rightly so.

Make better pitches which help bowlers. Test matches all over the world  mostly are being played in bowler friendly wickets.

I am explicitly talking about catch in OP, sky and that Indian girl catch is pretty legit as they never allowed the ball to cross boundary while they already landed outside the bounday, but if you see the catch in OP that guy was already outside boundary and then jump in the air and threw the ball inside , it was clear cut six.

IPL should absolutely allow Vada Pav to be deployed as a specialized boundary fielder with the following conditions:

  • Must maintain a minimum waddle speed of 2 km/h while patrolling the rope
  • Gets a 30-second samosa break every over
  • Can only catch balls if they bounce off his belly first (counts as a regulation catch)
  • Opponents get distracted trying to figure out if he's actually moving or if it's just the stadium wobbling
  • Special "Pav Power Play" where he rolls around the boundary like a bowling ball, automatically collecting any ball that comes within a 10-meter radius
  • If he successfully completes a catch, the entire crowd gets free vada pav (stadium owners hate this one trick)
  • His fielding position is officially listed as "Deep Mid-Snack"
  • Can substitute for any player as long as he brings enough chutneys for the whole team

The real strategic advantage: batsmen will be too busy craving street food to concentrate on their shots. It's psychological warfare through carbohydrates.

No foot should be inside before he makes first contact

No first time he touched he was inside the boundary.

Talking about second time. He was outside boundary and then jump and threw the ball inside..How can you be outside the bound and jump and throw the ball inside and catch it.

Doesnt matter first contact, second time when he made contact where he was . He was clealy ourside boundary and if there was a rule for first contact , i am glad they discarded or else player can perform such nonsense. They should always se frame of reference once you are outside boundary than from there any contact with the ball should be six.

They aren't targetting that. Watch the video in the OP. Juggling once is legal, but keep doing hop and juggling outside the boundary is illegal.

But his second juggle is outside the boundary. You can't go outside the boundary and throw the ball from there.

I hope they change the rules for these type of catches and give it a six. This was freaking bulllssshhiitt btw. Maxwell was a good 5 feet outside the boundary rope when he made his first contact with the ball.

If a ball boy had managed to touch the ball, it'd be an automatic six. Batter was robbed.

If these are given out. there's no point in having a boundary rope to denote the end of the playing area. Maxwell was way outside the fielding area.

This is different. Here he touches the ground outside the boundary only once that too after throwing the ball.

That is not the issue. The ball has already travelled outside the boundary rope.

Fielders should be making contact with the ball within the boundary ropes only.

He touches the ball in the air. That's super athleticism and perfectly legal.

it is legal now. No one's disputing that.

I'm saying rules should change that bars fielders making first contact beyond the boundary line.
