Trichromatic Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Ganguly Gambhir Pant Jadeja List aint long for the team.
Trichromatic Posted October 11, 2025 Author Posted October 11, 2025 Jadeja is on his way to surpass Gambhir's tally. Jaiswal just moved ahead of Dhawan in this test.

Tillu Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 (edited) He is already the 2nd best left handed batsman from Asia after Sangakkara. Edited October 11, 2025 by Tillu crictime 1
bsriharsha Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Yeah fair call. Between Pant , Jaiswal & Jadeja. Don't have the marked weaknesses that Ganguly and Gambhir had. Pant has had a very good test career so far. Jadeja is probably looking likely to end his career with an average of 40. That for a lower middle order batsman is astounding, India really haven't produced too many left handed batsmen historically. cricspirit 1
cricspirit Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 YES. However rest of his career has to play out fulfilling his potential and promise. Jaiswal Pant Jadeja Ganguly Gambhir Unfortunately Kambli could not fulfill his potential. Dhawan could not make it big in Tests. New guy 1
bsriharsha Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Dhawan had a pretty okay career even in tests. Averaging 40 as an opener isn't bad. But he won't be in the reckoning for the top 5. Kambli had one purple patch and then was dropped once his weaknesses were found out. Yuvraj just didn't have the technique needed to succeed in tests.
AshVin Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 (edited) Yes. Not even up for discussion. He'll get 10k Test runs with 50+ average. Edited October 11, 2025 by AshVin
Majestic Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Yes. 1. Jaiswal 2. Pant 3. Ganguly 4. Gambhir 5. Jadeja crictime 1
express bowling Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Jaiswal competes with Pant. Jaiswal plays big innings. Pant is very successful in crunch situations in tests.
Gollum Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 Nope, still Pant. Have to look beyond stats, Pant has played the most number of high impact, clutch, back against the wall knocks for us probably since Laxman. Has so many ATG knocks......in Gabba, SCG, Cape Town, even at home for instance in Ahmedabad 4th test, 2021 against Poms. Pant has been very unlucky to have debuted late and also missed out on so many games. Jaiswal too has played some clutch knocks, that 160 in Perth and his efforts in helping us win in Oval test this year stand out. For a 23 year old, he has great creds, and the hunger. Still behind Pant for me, but in few years time he can even be in the GOAT category, that is how high his ceiling is. For me since Pant's debut, if I have to rank batsmen, 1. Pant 2. Root Jaiswal, Brook, Kane mama, Head (again, just for impact) follow them. Sgattick10, New guy and Tillu 1 2
Gollum Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 (edited) In 10 years time, Jaiswal and Pant will not just be our 2 greatest LHBs (undisputed) but probably even overall, they will be right up there in the Sachin, Sunny class. Higher ceiling than Dravid, Kohli, Viru, VVS etc. Ganguly had a good career but nothing extraordinary, in this era he would have Rahane like stats. GG again, too short a career and fell away quickly post 2010. Dhawan was never a good test bat, Jadeja will probably end up higher than a lot of these people. Wildcard for me is Sundar, if given opportunities he can be one guy who can come close to Jaiswal/Pant, albeit in different ways. Perfect combination of technique, temperement/patience and clutchness.....potentially a spin version of Kallis. Edited October 11, 2025 by Gollum Sgattick10 and New guy 2
jf1gp_1 Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 For now Pant is ahead but not by much. Couple of seasons and we will know where Jaiswal is heading.
crictime Posted October 11, 2025 Posted October 11, 2025 No comparison between Yashasvi Jaiswal and others. The only Indian lefthander to average 52.70. Tough runs seeing off the pace bowlers when they are at their fittest and full of energy on first spells. Even fielders are at their best to stop singles and fours. I don't think the next best must be even 5 runs closer to him. Neither Statistically nor subjectively, anyone is closer to him. Tillu and cricspirit 2

Pant has a clutch genes no doubt about it but he doesn’t have any class or elegance in his batting the same reason i would never put Smith over Sachin even he has played more clutch innings than Sachin
