  1. 1. Should Gill lose captaincy to Pant after this spineless/selfish display?

Was it a whiplash, what exactly happened to him, there should be reason for his sprain.

Morkel's explaination of waking up with wrong pillow does not answer it.

The doctor's diagnosis was released. Apparently Inter-spinous ligament injury. It can be serious in some cases and isn't always trivial.

Apparently per Boria and his team, the doctors have advised Gill not to travel to Guwahati otherwise there is a risk of aggravation of the injury. Apparently he is set to ignore this advice and travel anyway even though he doesn't end up playing.

Sounds stupid to me.   His symbolic non playing presence in Guwahati is of zero value.

He played despite having discomfort before the last match and lasted 3 balls before having to quit the test.

If he is not fit enough to play what is the upside in neglecting the doctor's advice of not to travel ? There is zero upside and the downside ( long term injury) is fairly obvious.

Wait. he already had signs of some issues before the match? That is reckless then. Because prior to that all he did was playing a sweep shot.

Ear wax blockage is cerumen impaction

Heel pain due to incorrect shoe size/shape is plantar fasciitis

Gas is functional dyspepsia

Runny nose is allergic rhynitis

Similar jargon to describe any medical condition.

Gill PR storm all over SM.

Doesn't matter if he takes the field or not on Saturday, he will be hailed. Well on his way to becoming another bhagwan for people to worship.

He apparently has discomfort with his neck before the game. Unlike the keyboard warriors who exhort others to take risks with their health, I tend to take the information released by doctors and others at face value and when they recommend hospitalisation etc it isn't something that can be second guessed by random internet warriors

It must be serious for him to miss both innings.Just wanted to know how and when it happened.

Was it there before match.

Well he's now ruled out of this test as well. Unsurprising. Not sure why they got him to defy medical advice against travelling for no real benefit.

By all accounts, he had been feeling a niggle on the morning of the match. It seems the ligament got stetched or snapped while playing the shot he did and he could no longer carry on after that point.

We have to accept whatever the player decides based on doctor and team’s advice, along with his own comfort level as in many cases different people react differently to same type of injuries, sicknesses, infections, etc.

extremely unlikely that he had that issue just after facing those 3 deliveries.. he probably took the risk and played the match leading to a  historic humilating defeat

looks like we won't find great test batsmen henceforth.. Kohli might be the last one after fab 5. Gill's centuries in England were against an all time weakest english attack with an eye on ashes

If that is true then it is completely on him and TM. They took SA for granted just like they did NZ

Ligament isn't same as others. Achilles tendinitis is a ligament injury in athletes that connects shon bone to heel bone. I have Achilles tendinitis so I know how it feels. It completely hampers movement too and requires surgery. Ligament injuries are serious issues, shouldn't be taken lightly. It can be career threatening.

Whatever the attack, he still had to score. Most of the big scores by the batsmen are always scored against weak attacks or on flat wickets or if you are lucky with drops like Kohli was in 2018.

Maybe they didn't think it was that serious. Must have thought bad posture while sleeping. Neck is the most important moving part in batting. You can't even take stance if it becomes immobilised.

I can understand if it happened in first innings but bad neck sprains from sleep don't require hospitalization that too for multiple days.

Drops are part of the game , runs still need to be scored. Gooch was dropped on 36 but went on to score 333. Steve Smith was dropped million times in 2017 series in India but he still scored all those runs.

Kohli scored more runs than anyone else from both sides in that series in 2018 it was not due to just some drops.

This recent England however was played on flattest pitches against a putrid attack, even useless fellow like KL rahul scored 500 runs that should say it all about the quality of English bowling. They still could not beat them.

how can the neck sprain due to bad sleeping posture escalate to ICU level after facing 3 deliveries? Looks like he didn't reveal it to TM or the TM is aware and clueless
