rollingstoned Posted January 2 Posted January 2 https://crictoday.com/cricket/news/india-set-to-recall-mohammed-shami-for-odi-series-against-new-zealand/ As i predicted before they are laying the ground to call Shami back before a big tournament comes again. The maahol is being made to call back Kohli and Hitman too judging by all the news in the press last week. Former players saying their retirement in tests was too 'abrupt' and they deserve a proper send off. Compared to 6 mths ago people are looking on them more favorably now.
Lone Wolf Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Shami is beyond washed up... The bunch of jokers in selection committee is baffling. These low intensity ODI series should be used to develop upcoming players. Kiwis literally have all newbies barring a few for ODIs. AKane and tapandrun 2
cowboysfan Posted January 2 Posted January 2 lol why ? why are we so afraid to bring in new guys in a meaningless series?

I think after Shami spoke in the media, they are reacting to it. In all honesty, there is no valid reason given for his permanent exclusion because they are still playing Kohli and Rohit. tapandrun 1
Nikhil_cric Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Kohli, Rohit, Jadeja and Shami in 2027 World Cup. They're all going to flop rollingstoned, Suhaan, tapandrun and 1 other 1 1 2

Exactly, they will have to look just as bowlers are dropped on basis of age while batsmen are given preferential treatment Shami has played all the SMAT and VHT games since then displaying his fitness but what exactly his pace,I really doubt his pace which he's operating with Pacers are actually different, their fitness demand is more than batsmen,I don't think going with Shami is a good thing as CWC too looms

Manucrick Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Lot's of people crying about need to bring back shami if he picked for nz series then we can see the reality
Lone Wolf Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Avg sub 75IQ of Indian sports journalists is also responsible for his comeback... These jokers know nothing about new players and keep hyping up these washed up has beens and create unnecessary mahol on SM for their comeback... Third class sports ecosystem overall and don't get me started on dehati fans tapandrun and express bowling 2
tapandrun Posted January 2 Posted January 2 They are overhyping the performance of vht and smat, shami is top draw bowler even at lower fitness % he will be able to get better off the domestic batters, same for bhuvi aswell. Stacking Odi team with ageing players is not a good idea. Though on records or the recent performances kolhi, rohit, jadu, shami can make it in the Odi playing-11, but there is a time when as a system you have to move-on and build a new team. They are not doing it, it can all fall flat on the face in the Odi wc. Lone Wolf 1

Third class sports ecosystem overall and don't get me started on dehati fans I think it is also due to management's lack of communication. Ravi bot always talked about communication. good or bad you communicate and get the players upto speed. Not sure that is happening here.Same with Iyer's non selection. Agarkar got irked when asked about Iyer. Iyer even had to say something like "I only played because Kohli got injured". They might communicate with some players. But certainly not all. Shami is just not a top Indian world cup bowler. Statistically a GOAT. Bowled all his career in the two new ball era. Has insane stats. Definitely needed better treatment.
AKane Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I think they have written off the WC 2027 in SA. They (establishment) prolly think we have very little chance there so they are going through the motions.....

Third class sports ecosystem overall and don't get me started on dehati fans Sports journalist do not follow cricket but they follow trends. Have not seen a single journalist taking anything technical about cricket. Some time back they all wanted Ind players to play domestic and now the bcci is enforcing it kolhi and rohit too they all have sided with kolhi and rohit and saying its too much. If an Ind capped player scores some runs in the domestic it becomes a news it does not matter if they got no score after that. if its not ind capped or ipl capped player they do not talk or mention about them. swastik samal (odsa) got a double ton no one is talking about him. no one talking about ankit kumar (hryn) he is 2nd top run getter in smat this season. thats because they are not a trend , these players do not have hype express bowling 1
nevada Posted January 2 Posted January 2 It's just a bilateral series. If Shami cannot last the full 10 overs and bowl well, it will mark the end of his career and give him closure.

Definitely needed better treatment. nothing to do with lack of communication, 4-5 yrs back, under kolhi-sastri there were open talks of not selecting shami in white-ball to prolong his test career. that time shami said nothing, its just that this tm and captain is in -ive light and weaker ground so he can talk about it. an indication would have been given to him that they are looking beyond him and he can continue playing domestic if he wants to. it was similar situation with bhuvi not long back. Star player can retire and still find an IPL contract just based on their star value but others wont so calling they are retiring from a format can dent ipl contract or Ind tm and selectors are not interested in them can also dent ipl contract there has always been diff. treatments to super stars compared to other players be it sachin, dhoni, kolhi, rohit..... it is how it is Edited January 2 by tapandrun

Now players can voice their opinion. People talk. So BCCI back themselves into a corner and do things like this. Look at GIll's PR bots. In Shami's case one of them is not being truthful. BCCI is notorious for lack of transparency in many aspects. They should give the right reasons for snubbing Shami. If they say fitness issue then they need evidence. If Shami plays all the domestic competition bowls enough overs they cannot say fitness anymore. Atleast give the right reason. He is a better match winner for us than the over-rated batsmen. He needs a proper farewell. Sit with him and see where they are with him. That is what past selectors did with big guys like Tendulkar. Occasionally some guys like Dravid, Pujara, Laxman went without any farewell. But they were communicated about their future.

Its just sastri and kolhi were too strong fr these ppl to raise voices bcci has always been not transparent. As for farewell no one is getting any farewell these days, even rohit and kolhi didnt get when they retired from Test and T20is, this is how it is. Even pujara, he was unhappy when he was dropped. rahane is also kicking and he plays domestic because he has IPL contract and want to keep that contract going same for bhuvi. They all know whats going-on, they also want this ambiguity it help them to get Ipl contract. Shami has been a great bowler there is no doubt about it. but its time to move-on. Develop bowlers when Ind has time and have few bowlers who can be worked up-on fr 2-3 years till they get better, else will have to wait for next batch not sure when that is coming. Ind pacers take alot of development time ... and they already kind of wasted their time with Mukesh, avesh, unadkar.. etc.... but think there is element of IPL contract to all this... If they want to reward give chance to Ashok, Mishra . they can be developed in 1-2 yrs and can be useful in SA conditions... Edited January 2 by tapandrun
